Japanese Snow Pine 'Tani Mano Uki' (Pinus Pinus parviflora)
Great picture!! I am thinking of purchasing one of these. It is what they call a "fresh graft". Quite small, I would imagine? How long have you had your's? How old is it, and do you have a full size picture of it? Also, is it slow growing and how big do they get? Conifers are my latest passion and I don't know much about them, as you might guess... ;-) But I am reading about them and beginning a collection. I just love them.
Thanks for sharing.
Kathy
Hi Kathy,
I can't answer your question about 'fresh graft' since I'm not knowledgable in this area. I purchased the plant from Rare Find Nursery, which is in the DG Watchdog area. You might consider giving them a ring to discuss further?
I've had mine since about mid-March of this year and believe the graft is a year old, perhaps two?
The description of the plant is:
"green needles with white dusting; spring candles are bright pink; low growing mound"
I have to say, this conifer is among my top three favorites in my garden. I had no idea it would be ranked that highly, but it's truly stunning. Yes, they are very slow growing and will probably not top 2.5 feet in height at maturity. They are a wee bit pricey, but I'm very glad I purchased it. Just beautiful!
I just posted another picture of it in the plant files. It will probably take a couple days to post, so I'll post it here as well ...if that's possible, that is....
Anne
Hi Anne,
Thanks so much for all the info and for posting the pic. Your input has finalized my decision. I have got to get one!! They certainly ARE beautiful. I will check with Rare Find Nursery and see what I can find out about "fresh grafts".
Please don't thing me odd ..... but I must say I like your name, Anne. I am named after both my grandmothers (Kathryn Anne). Anne is my father's mother's first name. Dad usually calls me Anne Kathryn. lol Just thought I'd share that with you.
Back to the conifer...your's looks very happy. I hope mine does well also.
Kathy
Happy I could help. :o)
Funny how your father reverses your names. Very cute! Not that I'm partial or anything... but 'A' does come before 'K'.... *grin*
I was just recently at rare find nursery and did see a couple of the tani mano uki's left. At least... I think they'd not been sold as yet. Let me know how it goes!
Anne
Anne,
Thanks, I will.
Kathy
