I planted a mix of white and purple in the fall. Bulbs looked good, conditions and location, I believe, have been good too. I have green from most of the bulbs, only 2 have bloomed--and small blooms at that. Is it typical of fritillaria to take time to settle in and produce? If I've got greens on most of the bulbs--is that a good sign that they'll continue to grow w/ better blooming results next year?
I'm very fond of the flowers and slim foliage and planned to add more each year for a while, but would like to understand their habits better first.
fritillaria meleagris
I live in 4b, and never had any luck with Fritillaria. Could just be me, though!
I've had them hide in the ground for a good couple of years before coming up, they are often over dried by the bulb supopliers and are best planted now when they have green on them.
hmmm, that's interesting--do you find that nurseries offer them in pots? I've never encountered that--or is there a source I am unaware of..?
Thanks!
They do in the UK but they might not in your part of the US.
