Rubber Tree/Plant "babies"

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Do greenhouses create these little guys from cuttings? from seeds? From greenhouse grower magic? I'm interested in getting one, but didn't want to ask if anybody had a cutting they would share if they're grown from seed... :)

Thank you

Mine isn't big enough to take cuttings from yet (so no personal experience on how easy they are to root), but I've heard that some people can get them to root from cuttings. They can be propagated from air-layering too.

Nursery growers grow them from cuttings from special rubber plant stock.

Will--would you know the details on how they grow it from cuttings? I've only read of them propagated from air layering but I was given 2 cuttings recently. They're sitting in water right now until I find out how to go about rooting them. thanks

PG - I don't know the details, but Gary Antosh at zone10@zone10.com is a Florida grower who would know. Let me know what you find out.

I used to work at a nursery that grew them . They would start with unrooted cuttings about a foot or so long that they had shipped up from florida. We would stick three to a ten inch pot and then put them outside in a shade house (during the summer) where they were misted several times a day, especuially during hot weather. They rooted very quickly and by the end of the summer they were a couple of feet tall and ready for sale. We would grow them by the hundreds.

Thanks for the lead, Will. I've emailed him so am just waiting to hear what he has to say. Thanks for the info too Jerseyguy. I'm going to try that with 1 of my cuttings and see what happens.

I always put my rubber tree outside in the soil in the summer as they grow wild in Fla(at least in Miami where I lived). They really put on the growth before I bring them in -in the fall
