Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Oh yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck YUCK! I hate those slimey things! I feel lucky, I've not ever seen one on my brugs. I have problems with hostas and some coleus! Eeeewwww....

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Linda, they ate my hostas into the next world over night. Yum yum gone. LOL.

Did you squish it Linda?

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I used the 1:9 ammonia/water spray that I had seen recommended. Killed it DEAD. I sprayed all around on the ground to get any that might be there too. I plan to keep that sprayer handy.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

The ammonia doesn't burn the plant?

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Haven't had a problem yet, but I haven't used it around blooms. I've only used it a few times. Someone else had suggested it on another thread.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

so sick. Russ didn't think snails could climb up the brug like that. Now I have proof! :-)

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

I use the ammonia water all around my plants too, and never worry about hitting them. It's nitrogen foliar feeding.

Great information, thanks for the link.

I have been having a problem with those little snails also. I never had any before last year and this year they are a nuisance. I am so glad to hear about the ammonia/water spray. I have found tiny babies so I have to get aggressive and get rid of them. It seems that if it is not one thing, it is another. I have even found mealy bugs on a couple tropicals and the only thing in my yard that use to get mealys is my coleus. I wonder if this is going to be the year of the bugs and pests.

I TRIED to kill a tree that I hated, many, many years ago - I poured bottle after bottle of household ammonia on it and it quadrupled in size. I thought anything that would burn my eyes outta their sockets would surely kill a tree. I gave up; we moved. Then, Jerry Baker told me household ammonia is a plant tonic. Whew. Who knew??!!

LOL

Frannie, it's sure beginning to look like it's going to be a bad year for insects.

Linda, I sure do know about them thar SLUGS! I just hate them and they are Really BiG here in Oregon.. They have done a number on my brugs in the gallon pots this spring. I also use the amonia and water spray for them and it works well.
I don't mind when a couple of cats chew on my brugs because they turn into something beautiful. SLUGS Don't!!!!! I only allow 1 cat per brug....LOL

Well just when you think you have seen everything on your plants this is a first for me. I was watering this evening and when I came back for a second round this is what I found in one of my hanging baskets. Grrrr Yulk Argh!!!!!##@# They got the raid taken to them. They had a nest in the basket complete with eggs.

Well they are dead now but what an invasion of ants. Can't believe I didn't see them earlier. The basket was just crawlin with ants after I watered them.
Good luck everyone with all the pests we are about to encounter this summer.

Pudgymudpies. what a good link! Tonight I'll have at least four bottles out for the slugs, plus I'm emptying my fireplace of the wood ash, and will sprinkle around all my vulnerable plants.

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

I out basil outside in pots and always have ants in them. I have never tried sitting them on saucers so may try that.. They really don't bother me until the time comes to empty the pots..yikes

My daddy told me that if you keep your plants in pots, that they should be moved around frequently to see what might be under them - his suggestion has served me well - this year alone, I've found slugs, ants and stink bugs - I've been putting Sevin dust under the pots and it seems to have worked...oh, and it was very beneficial to repot every thing in pots this season - it took TONS of potting soil but the plants look much better, so it was worth the effort, there were slugs, ants, grubs, etc, in the pots...

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Kin, I discovered a sugar ant colony growing in my office underneath one of my orchids! If that wasn't bad enough, the 2nd part of their nest was underneath my snake's tank right next to them.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

emily, if that happened at my house, I'd be for the ants, whew, I'm allergic to snakes!!
