Are these a-ok??

Brookhaven, PA(Zone 7a)

All the pictures on this board got me thinking-- these are the plants I have recived -- do they look leggy to you all? they were in a window at my Pop-pops - Iswear it was the magic window- it was perfect for growing plants!!! now that they have been here a while I am thinking they don;t look nearly as nice as the ones all you experts have- do I start chopping leaves and starting over- wait a while (at least till they flower), or are they just fine?

I agree with you - a bit leggy. Nothing a bit more light won't fix - just don't rush it or you'll get the opposite problem! (crinkly leaves from too much light).

Although, I will say, that some AVs just grow like that. I have one that just will not lower its leaves ... grrrrrrr...

Yes, when the leaves seem to be reaching up like that, they are trying to get a bit more light. Move them around a bit until you find your own "magic window!"

Well In my defence they looked like this when I got them! LOL! The "magic window" was REALLY crowded. I have them in my living room now- right new a window (but not right in front) I live in a twin so I only have windows on 3 sides and one of them has a pair of cedars in front of it. the others don't have flat surfaces under them becasue of the rugrats....

If you haven't had them long, they just may need a few more weeks to "realize" they can now spread out a bit more. Which way does your window face? I've heard East is best, but any window that gets a decent amount of sun will work, you just have to play a bit with the placement of the violet.... you're right that they don't like too much direct sun, but I had them in an east facing window when growing up, right in front of the window, and they loved it. In my very bright morning room (south facing but with east & west light too), they prefer the indirect light in the corner.

BTW, nice to see you in the chat room tonight! Sorry I kept coming & going....
