This question is for all of you more experienced ponders. If you could pick one night blooming tropical waterlily, which one would it be?
My pond is little- 5.5' x 10.5' rectangular. Mostly, I have plants from Walmart, hardy waterlilies and marginals. There are currently two lotus seedlings. This night-blooming tropical will be my big splurge for the pond this year so I want it to be special. This way my husband will get to enjoy the pond too.
So, which one Night bloomer do you find extra special?
Sheila
If you could pick one night blooming tropical waterlily...
Shelia, be advised that the tropicals do get bigger than the alot of the hardies. Of course, you can keep it trimmed back. I have and have heard good things about Red Flare, (I think it is a night bloomer) so if I chose one, that would probably be it :)
Hmmmmm...yes... that's why only one... I know, what a sob story and why didn't she just start out with a bigger pond. (Cause I'm the one who had to dig it, she answers, with a then 4 year old to "help".)
Have you seen Sean Stevens' (I believe it is) dixie cup method for growing tropicals? Even then I'm limited to one. I just wanted my husband to get to enjoy the waterlilies too.
Red Flare. Is that one fragrant?
Sheila
No..I would not ask why you didnt build a bigger pond :) I didnt build a bigger one cause I had to dig it and pay for the EPDM liner !! :)
Yes, I have seen Sean's site and talked to him. His method will surely work but it does require alot of maintaining in regards to keeping the number of pads low. Still, you sure could use a gallon size pot and help keep your tropical a little smaller. :) Dont know if red flare is fragrant.
I am sending you a PM>
