Echinopsis 'June Noon'
Echinopsis
This was recently added to my collection. Blooms last for one day in this heat (100F).
Echinopsis 'June Noon'
What huge flowers!!!! Nice, Annie
Thanks, Annie. The flowers in the pic were actually about 5" across, but can get a little bigger if the weather was cooler.
We just picked up one of those last week. Three flowers opened the first night and five more are growing and should open in about a week I guess.
Hey, HoJolv. Isn't it lovely? Why don't you add some pics to this plant's entry. Where did you get yours? If you don't mind me asking.
Over 5" across???? Wow, Annie
Yes. Most trichocereus' flowers are about that big or even bigger.
What's the trick to getting these to bloom? My colleague has a pot of three plants in the office and they are quite large but don't do anything. Not enough light?
Gorgeous plant BTW!
Thanks! First of all, what plants does your colleague have? Some cacti will not bloom until they reached a large size. Try to upload an image if possible.
In general, cacti need some sunlight year round to grow well. They also need a cool dry period in winter to encourage buds to form. Adding some low nitrogen fertilizer in early spring will help also.
My cacti are grown outdoors, so that maybe the trick. Otherwise, not much tricks are involve. The weather is the real trick here too.
I have some of mine indoors in a very sunny window until after 7pm right now!! Doing great, Annie
Beautiful photo and big blooms............................ : )
Kaleem
South or west-facing windows should do well for most cacti. I once live in an appartment in Seattle and grew about 70 or so cacti right inside a west-facing bay window. They did well.
Thanks, Kaleem.
I got it here http://www.turner-greenhouse.com/
They have a great sellection and all they handle is cacti and succulent's. They are off Craig Rd. about one block west of Buffalo. They are only open Thursday through Sunday and it is run out of thier house but don't let that fool you. They have a hugh house and yard and two large green houses as well as tons of stuff outside.
Thanks HoJolv. I've been to their place several times. I just thought you might have gone to some new local nursery that I haven't heard of yet. I met Dave and Kris Turner. Spend hundreds everytime we go there. I like Kris, she's the cool one. We always go there on Tuesdays, but we have to call ahead. I got my 'June noon' from a nursery in Tucson, AZ.
