Holy Moses, that is beautiful, Lisa. Yes, it is my favorite too even though I've never seen blooms in person. Antoinette sent me a couple of starts last year, and I hope they will bloom for me this summer.

This one is my second favorite. It has a little bitty flower, but I like it. Although, I have a Tropicana about to blooms so that may be my second favorite. I like the foliage for sure.

Hi Lisa, the little canna is Canna limbata, also called Canna indica: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/477/index.html

I received a lot of cannas in a trade I made. After seeing those pictures I just can't wait to get growing. I've got Lenape, Striped Beauty, Richard Wallace, several Cleopatras, Red Wine, Tropical Sunrise, Red Futurity, China Doll, Crimson Beauty. Keep those photos coming!

I just planted Cleopatra, and I am hoping it is a pretty as yours!! And Clare, yours is just adorable.

My fav by far is Tropicanna. Whoever grew this one out first must have had a heart attack when they saw the colors. It needs no flower.

Tropicanna is probably my second favorite. I love the colors on the leaves. Mine is in my canna bed, but I also have some in my pond!

Thanks, Kell. Your Tropicanna is fabulous. You are right that the leaves are heart-stopping. Hey, do you guys know what canna this is below? I grew it from seed so perhaps it is a hybrid of some sort. The leaves are a dark brown and very narrow. It didn't flower last year, but I am hoping it will this year. I think it could be a red-striped canna hybrid or a Tropicanna hybrid?

I have to post this pic. How tall do the Tropicannas get? This one is about 40" tall.

That is a great pic! I think mine were 5' to 6' last year.

Here's a better pic of my unknown canna. The leaves aren't really brown; they are purple.

Emily, your Tropicanna is beautiful!

I hope my canna stays happy as I just moved it to a location where it will be lots of heat and full sun up until about 3pm, then dappled sun after that. I added plenty of compost, perlite, and peat to the already amended soil. I left a good foot around it to so it can spread if it wants. How often do these need to be watered in the summer?

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

Clare, that is a very interesting looking canna. Kind of reminds me of the canna I have in my pond except mine has greenish blue leaves. Anyway, the leaves on mine are thin like those. It will be interesting to see what the bloom looks like. Mine has salmon colored blooms.

Thanks, Lisa. It must be a hybrid of some sort. I'll be sure to post a picture of the flowers when it blooms. Thanks for your help:-)
