Can anyone tell me if flowers and grass will grow under pine trees... we are moving from z.9 and I'm having withdrawals of leaving my beautiful yard in full bloom!

moving to zone 7 w/pine trees... help
Dottie- is the above picture where you will be moving too? If so those are some large pines. I don't think grass will grow under them as the canopy looks to dense to let light in. I think the paths in the above picture look nice. Once some plants are put in the beds it might really come to life.
Forget grass. Think of a stroll through a woodland garden, azaleas and ferns and hostas and bleeding heart! Climbing oak-leaf hydrangea vines, and that sort of thing. Bulbs that need winter chill (as long as you can keep the gophers and moles away) will now pop up every spring without needing to be put in your refrigerator. Delphiniums will return reliably for you, instead of pooping out in one year as they do in our warmer climate.
It's a whole 'nother world, think of it as an opportunity to expand your gardening horizons!
Datdog, yes very large pine trees indeed...I will just have to learn a new way of life, they say topsoil has to be brought in to grow anything there. Amazing such a difference in soil only 40 minutes away. Our soil is the most wonderful I've ever had the pleasure of gardening in...so a move might be hard on me....I do love azaleas and bleeding heart and hydrangeas....
