Begonias, Angelwing, Rooted Cuttings For Trade

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

I'm in the process of cutting back all my Angelwing and Cane Begonias, 5 or 6 different named varieties (nothing rare), probably a total of 30 plants being cut back, guessing 70-100 cuttings. I have about 40 with roots or nubbies showing now. If you are interested in trading, check back here tomorrow for pictures and other info.

I'm interested in:
Begonias - Angelwing Cane Only
Brugs (Named Only)
Daturas
Iris, solid colors, named or unknown
Philodendron - large leaf

Bward,

I've only tried to ship these once and I did a half way good job at doing it so .... if at first I don't succeed we'll just try again.

I've got loads of company coming early, early in the morning for a visit after that I will send pictures of what I have, to you and MsCritterkeeper. We decided to wait until after her son's wedding this weekend.

I'm suppose to have :

Dragonwing - Pink & Red

Angelwings:

Richendensis Pink & White
Medora
Linda Dawn
Sinbad
Concord
Frosty

Plus a couple of cane varieties name unknown but are beautiful

I will find all of these (don't laugh I can't walk for plants) and take pictures tomorrow. Meanwhile some pictures of the cane which many or many not be the above.

These all are prior to DG and like so many who have gone before me I didn't pay much attention to the names.

That one--as best as I can tell--looks alot like Little Brother Montgomery? Nice. =) And, I hear you, before DG & local ladies' garden clubs, those markers went in the trash. It's a shame........=( Ah well.......still like the plants though, whoever the heck the are??! =)

I would love to snag some of your 'Linda Dawn,' 'Frosty' and the one above! And, I've read that those Dragonwings are wonderful in hanging baskets......I'll give some of your pink a good home, Judy!

=) MKJ

p.s. I know you're not looking for rex b.'s, but I've got 'Fairy,' and the leaves are incredible......and, it's not very "rex"'y either. It's in the right hand corner......

Wait until you see my Dragonwings, the pot is probably 20-25 and the plant is 4 1/2 ft tall most likely. They started off in hanging baskets, but didn't make it the complete summer until I had to repot.

I bought my first Rex Begonia last year and it died. *sigh* The people at the nursery told me never to let water touch the leaves, and never let the sun shine directly on it. I followed their directions, tended to it like a baby, and still lost it. I loved the plant and plan to get another...any advice?

Hiya, Pati--I've found that the rexes are super easy. I mean, I only water mine, and I've even gotten blooms from some?! I can trade some cuttings of mine to you, if you'd like? Or, let me know, and I'll get some started for you. I've got: Persian Brocade, Nigramarga, Cowardly Lion, and Fairy.

--I do know that too much water will rot them, so I only water them about once every two weeks.......except for one that is outside--

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

You see that is my problem, if one plant wilts they all get watered.... oops dead Rex, everytime.

Judy

For those of you who have not seen the pictures of my plants from last year, which are all still alive

Awesome! I showed this to my husband already, who is instituting "code violations" for the number of plants I have per room (lol), and he said, "Don't you DARE!--I'm watching you!"

My problem is, my DH encourages me!!! Maybe he's trying to collect on my insurance policy, encouraging me to work myself to death. lol lol

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

MKJONES, thank you so much for your offer! I am really limited in room for plants, especially now when I have caught the "Coleus Craze". LOL I am trying to limit my containers after the hurricanes last year. It was a riot trying to find places for them and hauling them in! Maybe in the future I will try the Rex again. I really do love them, but right now it's so hot I can only stagger out twice a day to water. So far this year our rain has come either in torrents, sometimes with hail, or none at all.

Judy, everytime I look at your web-site, I wonder if you need a resident grandmother? I could play with the Bullies and water your plants for you. I don't eat much (yeah right!) and I'm very quiet. *smile*
Pati

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

It's a deal.... you answer the telephone, emails and play with puppies. Then I will gladly take care of everything else, but you'll have the rough end of the deal.

Yesterday i picked up the telephone to a man crying. They had put their two Bullies, which they got from me, outside while they moved in new furniture. Although the pen was in the shade, the temps were 95 and one of the Bullies had a heat stroke and died. I can't seem to get people to understand, Bullies can't handle the heat. All of ours are under a/c.

Have a good day.....

Judy

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Oh NO! How sad, not only to lose their Bullie, but to know it was their fault. I try to be so careful with the Doxies. They run out in the sun, and with their black coats I know they get too hot. So, it's 10 minutes at the most, then in for water and a flop on the bathroom tile floor. A little common sense goes a long way.

Just wanted everyone to know that I have an emergency situation out of town, which requires my full attention.

As best I can recall I only owe JanetS (3-4 lavender iris tubers) plus will owe Wandasflowers & iamakylady53 for postage on Iris. I have sent them emails asking for $ amount so I can get it to them immediately

If you are in the process of sending your end of the trade in which you have already received the plants I sent you, please go ahead there will be someone here to receive the plants, except for MichaelP, I've asked him to hold off shipping..

All my other trades, recently made were based upon me shipping first. These must be cancelled until such time as I can deal with the situation and return home. Please do not hold plants for me.

Don’t worry about us (DH is BigDaddy99) we’re fine, although this is very stressful.

Big Hugs,

Judy

Hope things are alright, Judy--=)

LOL LOL - Life has been messing with me.......

I'm handling most of it rather well but things just keep happening. I am too exhausted to do any trading and I just yesterday I decided I was crazy, some nurseries don't have this many plants. I'm blaming it on the dogs, they keep breaking off pieces and I poke them in water. I can't stand to throw away the pieces unless I have given them a chance to survive.

Just for fun I'll post some of the pictures I took...

Begonia Dragonwing Sunbrite Pink - this plant is 2 years old as of this month. I'm guessing it is 4 1/2 tall and wide, that is the largest pot I could find, it's on casters. It can survive being on the porch until the temps go down to 35, colder I don't know.

I've seen other Dragonwing's but they didn't appear to be as sturdy as this one, but it could have been their growning condition.

This is the unknown Angelwing Begonia. The picture posted above was taken 12/04 and I swear it grew 15 inches in all directions since then. Do you see that little dead string thing in the front of the pot, well that was my last Rex Begonia. I had just poked it in the pot with the other one but it wasn't watered enough, or too much, or irregularly... lol lol lol

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Fall of 2002 I had a problem with my heart and was unable to tend to my plants. I gave away what I could but a few were just too big to move, some were 40 years old that I had gotten when a relative had passed away, 10 years prior. If I hadn't already had a broken heart that would have done it.

I said all that to say, I expect for many of my plants to be with me until I can no longer care for them.

As soon as I get a lid on the happenings in my life I will prune back my plants and send out cuttings.

Judy,
Your plants reflect the love & care you give to them & everything else you do. Take care of yourself, too!

If you want and ID on that beautiful begonia, take a pic of the leaf a little closer...I think it is either Irene Nuss or
possible Sophie Cecil...

Prayers,
MsC

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Can you ID it from this, if not I'll take another one.

That's pretty good...looks just like all of my Irene Nuss.
Have you ever seen it bloom???

It's a beauty and one of my favorites!
