We have had that problem in our big pond.

I know he had to go but I hate to see him shot - is there not a wild place they could move him to? a zoo? There are some critters around here me and the guy behind us fight over them -LOL he has the right to shot them if he can see them but I beg for their lives . . . oh well anyody know how to make some shoes?

The old boy just got too big not to be noticed anymore.

Trois, at first glance I thought that they had shot the one that lurks around your pond. :o)

They call that one Goliath. I have never seen him but have seen his tracks, which I don't follow. The neighbors said he is over 18 feet long. I know his footprints are 15 inches wide since I could measure them.
I don't go around the pond at night this time of year. We have seen many tail drag marks, just about every night when I maintained the sand bed. I had this at the top of the trail that leads from the bayou to my pond. He did swim into a 3/8 nylon rope I had stretched across the pond, and he broke it. Too big to mess with. The one in the picture is about 30 miles west of where I live.

Better hope Goliath doesn't become a man eater. Alligators used to roam the Colorado River. I just hope they stay close to the mouth of the river. I have enough difficulties coping with cottonmouths, copperheads and rattlesnakes. Oh, and jumping spiders. I react badly to their (jumping spiders) bite. Life in the country has its pro and cons.

OMG, that is SCARY! I can't imagine having that thing live anywhere outside of a zoo!!

We have a gator problem here. They took a 16 footer out after it killed a horse. We live right next to Laguna Attascosa wildlife refuge and when their fresh water areas get dry, the gators move to the resacas(one runs behind my house). We had one getting up in the back area last year. They drained the resaca to fix a bridge and a HUGE gator walked across the mud right in broad daylight.

So how many boots can you get out of one that size anyway. If he's dead, we should put him to good use. Parks and Wildlife could raffle them off.
