I've started a thread regarding a new SG swap over at Herbs... http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/512482/ .
If anyone is interested, please join us there.

Scented Geranium Swap (Pelagonium)
I thought I'd bump this up, maybe spark some more interest by posting a list of varieties the participants have mentioned so far.... there's no guarantee, as most of us are just now propagating them, but here's an idea of what we hope to be able to include in the swap "pool." I'll add to this list as participants sign up.... we're limiting this to 10 people, but I think we're only up to 5 or 6 at present.
Strawberry
Mint Rose
Lady Mary
Rollinson's Vintage
Wildwood Rose
Fringed Apple
Angel
Fingerbowl Lemon
Ginger
Orange
Apricot
Giant Soft-leaf Rose
Oakleaf
Unnamed Lemon
Nutmeg

maybe also:

kathy
I got some new ones! So far, I've been able to take cuttings of:
Southernwood
Strawberry
Lime
Cody's Nutmeg
If we succeed in rooting even half the varieties we've all been taking cuttings from, we'll have a fabulous swap going!
If you have SG cuttings (especially varieties that aren't on the list) that you'd like to swap for other plants, please post on the thread over in the herbs forum, and we'll try to work out a trade.
Thanks for checking out this thread! :-)
There's also great info over at the thread about how to root and send cuttings, etc.
Still time to come join us!

um, i only have one beautiful huge rose scented geranium. am happy to make cuttings for anyone who wants but otherwise...maybe i can be the person who trades other plants for sg's? or maybe this is where i can convince Jill our trade should be for cuttings of her new plants? : )
How do you propogate these? Also, how big should the parent plant be first? I love these. I had some but they did not survive our last move out of state. :( I just splurged and bought 6 more yesterday.
Am wondering how they'll do in my zone 7 weather and if they do better in pots or in the ground. Was hoping to put them in some pots I saw at a local nursery (0h, no, more splurging!).
Thanks,
Gwen
There is lots of information about taking cuttings on the swap thread, link is above. We've also been discussing hardiness. I am in zone 6b and bring mine in during the winter. All mine are in pots, others have them in the ground. Even if you don't join the swap, the discussion there alone is worth looking at for your questions.
We'd love to have you join us whether its one you have to offer or several. If you are looking for something other than SGs in return, post your list on the thread and we'll all see who can accomodate you.
Come on over!

to propigate I just take cuttings, cut off the bottom layer of leaves off the stem, stick it in rooting hormone (walmart ) and stick them in moist soil, that's it, simple as pie,
some of us growin the ground some in pots, I grow all mine in pots and they stay in the greenhouse all summer long, others grow in the ground and dig up in the fall, zone 7 , you'd have to dig them up, they wouldn't survive outside in the winter. I'm zone 7 too.
In all honesty I would imagine everything grows better in theground , growing in pots eventaully will slow the growth, if their pot pound etc... I just don't growin the ground, as I don't have time to dig them all up and winter them in the greenhouse, so they just stay in the greenhouse, They still grow good for me in there.
critter did you hear me? i want to play!! : )
sorry, TT, I forgot to "watch" this thread as well as the one over on the herb forum! I'll probably have extra cuttings available from my larger geraniums, assuming I have good luck rooting them, and I'd be happy to send some with those verbascum seedlings I've promised you, but you might have more fun playing with all of us in the swap! You can play even if you have just one plant to share.... if you send, for example, 4 rooted cuttings of your rose geranium to Barb for the swap, you'll get 4 different rooted cuttings in return! If you want me to root cuttings for you, we can do that too.... maybe put them in a little box inside the box with the Naked Lady bulbs so they won't get crushed.
Gwen, I posted the "long version" of how to propagate (took it from Tom DeBaggio's book) over on the thread in the herb forum. The link is at the top of this page.
SGs definitely get larger when they have more room, whether that's in a bigger pot or planted in the ground. A guy who sells them at the farmer's market says his wife plants them all out in a bed for the summer, then they prune them back severely and pot them up for the winter or take cuttings to overwinter. I have mine in 10 or 12 inch pots, and I have to prune them several times during the winter so they don't get more than a couple feet across, or they'd completely take over the morning room.
As my DH watches this swap with trepidation, he is wondering where I am going to 'overwinter' all of my new SGs... Already, my GH is looking too small...
