Ive been hauling brugs in and out for the last 3 weeks and Im hoping that this is the last time...Im waiting patiently for them to bloom this year since some of the tags have faded and now I dont know what some of them are...how frustrating since most of the ones that had tags havent bloomed yet...
Anybody offering cuttings Im looking for more varieties...Ive got homemade soap to trade...Judy
Put my Brugs outside today
Judy, I hope the weather holds for you now. Taking plants in and out is hard work. It's time for a break. LOL! What brugs are you looking for?
Gosh, Judy, if my brugs ever grow enough, I'll surely trade with you, I LOVE homemade soap. Do you do grapefruit???
Brugie, do you have all your brugs outside?? I'm thinking I've got a few that need to join us inside with the aircon, it's really been hot and dry, but we are getting WONDERFUL rain as I type...
Sherry, mine are all outside, but many are still in quart pots. I have lots of planting to do. Our temps are remaining mild so far. We could actually use some heat to get things jump started.
Brugie, Im just looking for some different ones..Ive got Isabella,Charles Grimaldi, Sunray, Harding White and Maidera..the rest are unnamed....I wish I had written the names in pencil on the mini blinds but its done and I wont do that ever again....Judy
Hahaha, I'll send you ten degrees of heat, if you'll send me five of cool and five of lower humidity, whew! But, the rain is glorious and it has cooled off. I have more seedlings to plant too and it looks like tomorrow might be a great day...
Oh Shirley.....we are living proof that heat is on the way! I left work today at 4:00 and my car said it was 106 degrees! Whewwwwww~!!!!! It was so miserable! Actually the real temp was 98, but it sure felt like 106! Get ready....it's on the way!
Gosh, it is only 55 degree right now. Looks like the rain will fall very shortly. I hope you all are right and we do get some warmer temps soon.
Judy, getting cuttings right now probably wouldn't give you time to get flowers, at least not many, but this fall, if you will contact me, in mid Sept., I'll box up some cuttings for you from some different brugs. They aren't big enough to cut on right now.
Judy, you should try to put Arborea scent into your soaps!! You will have us lined up to buy them! LOL
I hope your weather is all straightened out now. Mine is finally beautiful here. We have had such weird weather this last month.
Kell, if I could find the fragrance oil to do it I would..Ive thought of this and asked around for dealer who might have some..nobody has contacted me yet,.....lolol..wouldnt that be awesome?.....Just to have that scent around all year round....Judy
Brugie, thank you for the offer...I will try and remember to contact your this fall.....Judy
By the way Judy, I have brug oil and it doesn't smell like the real thing at all, so don't waste your money. I was very disappointed but use it on light bulb rings anyway.
Well this just makes me want to investigate if there is some scent that smells like the burgs..will keep you posted...Judy
maybe a little smoke-and-mirrors Judy... make it with Johnson's baby powder and it'll sell as 'Butterfly'. :)
Brugie - that big girl I started from your seed has been sitting outside with the apple trees for a couple of days. Yesterday I planted my 3 inground. I know I've asked before but do you plant yours in full sun? The more I read, the more it seems like they need to be in partial shade with lots of protection. That's going to limit where I can put stuff.
Question # 2 - Do they all suddenly get limp and the tops slump over when transplanted out of big pots?
Blaine, my seedlings all go into full sun. I don't have any other place for them. I do work them up to full sun while they are still in the little pots. Usually when I transplant to the sun then, there is no problem. It takes a couple of weeks of partial sun to make sure they won't shock. The same is done for the cuttings and mother plants. At least for me here in the Midwest, that is how it works. I can't speak for any other part of the country.
I think I'm going to try a few in full sun this year! I have to do something, I'm running out of room....LOL
Earlier, I meant I had planted 3 inground already. Tomatos now planted, mulched and caged. With the east side of the house coming into shade, more brugs will go in the ground.
I see the spider mites have moved to other brugs in the hoop house. Guess it's time to start spraying as I move them outside.
What about one that has multiple buds and the first is starting to open. Do they tend to drop the buds if transplanted at that stage? This is my Peaches and Cream and it looks like there will be a steady procession of blooms for awhile with the number of buds she has set.
