Red leaf hoya

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 9a)

Have any of you seen the red leaf hoya on Asiatica's web site? Any ideas on what it is?

I saw it a long time ago. I have a H. pottsii that does that in high light...a couple of them, in fact. Asiatica's photo, as I remember, doesn't show much detail.

Carol, any of those pottsii's available? If so, can I add to my order before you ship it? Emai me if it's possible to add on.
Thanks
Heather
p.s. don't those leaves look really small to be a pottsii? Or is it just their angle with the camera?

I am going on memory here, Heather....can you send me the link to Asiatics and I will look....

Thanks

I have a small leaved hoya that I received labeled H. burtoniae that looks alot like what they are offering. The leaves on mine are a dark maroon color.

Yes...that H. burtoniae/H. tsangii thingy is the one now called H. DS-70 and it gets wonderful red leaves and the flowers smell like butter!!!

Carol...do you mean someone has crossed a tsangii with a burtoniae? I have both of those, but not anything that I thought was a cross. Hmmmm. Interesting. Do you have a picture of it somewhere?

Here is a picture of my H. burtoniae. It isn't a very good picture because this time of the day it is very bright in the greenhouse. I recently moved it to a spot where it wasn't getting as much bright light , so you can see the difference in the green and red of the leaves.

Here is a picture of my Burtoniae I purchased from Kartuz's.

This hoya has been in the "trade" as H. tsangii AND as H. burtoniae. Mrs. Burton has determined that it is neither and it has been given the designation H. DS-70. From far away H. collina and H. eitapensis can get a bit red and look like it too. Here is a link to photos:

Carol, sorry to get back to you so late, I don't know the link, it is in the Garden Watchdog, I just usually do a google search so, I don't know how to change the address thingy on my computer. Maybe my plants aren't getting enough light. I have them under flourescent lights I got from Wal'Mart, maybe I should invest for next winter, I am going to try moving most of them into my three season porch this summer. The will get sun from the north, west, and east. My windows in the house are south, however, our house is very shaded. I'm trying to spread the word of hoya, been taking some into work, I'm a bartender(ironically, a sober one), I barter with them. It's fun!!!!! I tell people there is no way you can kill them. If I over hear a co-worker talk about plants, poof!, their on my list!!!

Heather..I'll bet they will love it on your porch. They don't need a lot of direct sun...shade is better with bright indirect light and lots of airflow. Sounds perfect. David Liddle grows his in 80% shade clothed growhouses.

You have to spread the word!!! Good for you! If more people loved Hoyas, I think we have fewer problems in the world (they would be too busy having fun!!).
