If this one is leafing out in spring then it is B. fagaroides most likely.

Hm.. it is right next to what they are calling fagaroides I think. I will check in a few weeks

Hi PB,
please don't forget to check out the plant and its leaf shape, please. If it is really B. odorata it should be fully leafed out STILL. It goes pretty much dormant in summer.

Hi. Well you two guys are having fun. This ID is taking a long time. If I ever get to CA. and Huntington, I hope that the Bursera will have been be sorted out. In the meantime it is all Gumbo - Limbo to me ! Regards.

Geoff, did you ever get a chance to check this out?

El Cajon, CA

Here are photos of the two species in question taken on the same rainy day growing only a few meters apart in my yard.
1) Bursera fagaroides, full of seeds but without leaves almost all winter long.
2) Bursera odorata from southwest Baja, ~20 years old, has never flowered for me, leaved out all winter long, with anti-freeze fabric in rear.
