I had this one for about a year. The bright red seed pods are very showy.

Have you ever tried cactus fruits before such as cactus pear or saguaro fruits? There are several kinds of cactus fruits that can be eaten.

Yes, I like the cactus fruit a lot! But have not tried Saguaro yet, Oh how I would love to grow one, LOL

I tried prickly pear and dragon fruits. They're both very good. Never tried saguaro's fruits either. Growing one to fruiting size would take decades, but still fun to try anyway.

This plant is donig poorly in my climate. I have a small plant, but it's not growing well at all. It might do well at your area, as it does in So. Cal. I tasted the fruits when I was in Los Angeles. The plant is a form of Hylocereus. They are often used as stocks in a grafted cacti.

I will look for one, sorry yours is not doing so well!

That's okay. I was still able to keep it alive, for now. They don't like intense sun and heat like here in the desert, and does not like freezing temperatures either.

I've read Dave's Garden from the get go, looking for me understanding plant life and gardening. Now, this prickly little thing as made me push forward.

This is Mom's. She is so excited with the blooms but has been wondering about the little red thing. We figured it out searching here, its a seed pod. Full of seeds. She has shared this plant with a lot of family. Some have never had it bloom. Everything just elongates. Mom wanted to get her tweezers and pluck out the red, carefully. I got a picture first. And you see the blossoms. This is one blossom we missed. You can't have a seed without the flower. But the spikes are more pronounced with her cactus. Could this be the same?

Looks similar but I don't think it's the same plant. The radial spines are much thicker on your plant.
