I just got a pod off of one of my flowering maples. It's one I bought last year just labeled 'Mauve'. Nice flowers, nothing amazing.
These guys aren't self fertile are they? If not, the only other one I've got flowering is 'Nabob'. Could be a nice cross, hmm? It produced 14 seeds which I potted up last night in "regular" seed starting soil in a little mini greenhouse (along with some of my brug seeds). Is that okay for starting them?
thanks!
Question on Abutilon (Flowering Maple)
Carter, they are self fertile and the seedlings usually look like the parents but not always.(at least that's been my experience)
Well, it will be fun growing them out (if they germinate, lol). I did make a couple attempts at crossing the two, I just can't remember it it was that particular flower (I didn't mark it, and actually, forgot about it and just noticed the almost-ripe pod about a week ago).
Thanks!
Carter, they should germinate easily and bloom the first year. Abutilons are pretty easy from seed.
