I have 5 feeders about 15 ft apart in my yard. There is one little hummer that feeds there daily. I've never seen more than one at a time. The water is 4 parts to 1 and is kept fresh every 3 or 4 days. I have all new, clean feeders and rinse them with each refill - which I don't completely fill up since I'm changing it so often for the one hummer.
Are the other birds in my yard keeping them away? Looks like, with so many nice, clean, fresh feeders that I would have many hummers. I also keep a flower garden full of flowers they love - most have not yet bloomed but there are bunches of petunia with a few blooms. I have a small clay deck birdbath filled with small pebbles and a small amt of water for them to enjoy. what more can I do - or not do?

Are the little hummers bothered by larger birds?
You have built it and they will come! Hang in there.
Thanks - I love the little guys and when I see pics of 6 or 8 birds at one feeder I get so excited and hope one day my feeders will be so lucky.

You might want to try this: If you don't have any red bloomers yet, pick up some fake red flowers from the dollar store and set them out near your feeders. I put a red ribbon on my feeder too (since it doesn't have much red plastic) and that helps, I think.
the orange version of the above is supposed to work for Orioles too.
I read that HBs and Orioles can see their favorite color a half mile away. How do the researchers know that, I wonder?
Good luck.
