That is such an impressive CP! May I ask, how old is it? Did you grow it from seeds?

Hi Joseph
I purchased it at a local greenhouse so I'm not sure how old it is. It is a fascinating plant and I wished I could have seen it in bloom this spring....am hoping that I can manage to overwinter (inside the house) and catch the bloom next spring.

Is it winter hardy in Saskatchewan? I have read the cold-hardy plants are happier if they go through a dormant period. They do have a very cool flower, I had one flower for me and it looks like something not of this earth.

Hi Gerris
It's not winter hardy here......the information I took from the tag and from other sources says it's only hardy to zone 7a (-17.7F). My winters can get to -35F (on average) but also down to -40F (not counting windchill). I'll probably put it in the fridge and it can keep company with my waterlilies for the winter (their pond freezes to a depth of four feet). If I'm lucky it will work.....if not it's an annual for this summer. ;)

You're so kind. I had not seen your Zone of 3b. I grew up in Superior Wisconsin and remember those very cold winters.

I have started growing some Sarracenia flava from seeds. They look just like grass blades in the early growth stages. I have been able to keep two Pinguicula species alive for a few weeks now, which is remarkable for me. I figure that some mortality is inevitable while I learn what it takes to make these cool plants happy.

Congratulations! Ü Keeping fingers crossed for your babies Joseph.

Thanks, Lilypon. I was reading my CP book on the bus commute, and it said for some species they are winter hardy all the way up to the Arctic Circle! These were butterworts, Pinguicula species. Cool, huh?

LOL......I should prolly purchase one of those! Saskatchewan had one town that was colder than both poles (just broke the record for one day tho ;).
