Great picture - it shows all the possible colors of this plant.

Oh my, I need this plant.

Aurora, TX(Zone 8a)

That is SO pretty.........wonder if it'll grow in Texas?

Very cosmic and beautiful...flowers are like stars in the sky on the canvas of green!

Okay, Joseph.....if I didn't ALREADY like that beautiful new plant, you've truly sold me with the lovely prose you've included WITH it! =)

We have thousands of these, so they do grow in Texas. We really like them. They grow over other plants, but they are usually better looking than the others so we leave most of them. I have posted in the PF last year of them making a rope of themselves to climb without any supporting structure.

zsnp. what a lovely combination. I wish I had thought to plant seeds of the different colored ones. I had only seen seeds for the red bloomong one. Maybe I can find some of the other ones and plant them quickly so that they are able to intermingle. This is such a great photo. Thanks for sharing.

trois, hi. I just planted the seeds for this vine after soaking them. They came up in 3 days. I intend for them to climb on a lattice board. Do you think that I need to attach strings to the lattice board or will they be able to twine up it by themselves?

They are the best climbers around. If they can reach the bottom, they can handle the rest.

They reseed very easily. We have the white and mostly the red. Also a few pink. I think these combinations occur naturally, so you should have all 3.

The first year we only had the red, now still mostly red, but all 3. The white always bloom first, then the red, then the pinks. Then all at once.
Just stay out of their way. They grow very fast.

trois, thanks for answering so quickly an for the information. The seed packet only showed the red, but it is good to know that they will reseed and maybe I'll have the other colors too next year. Have you grown moon vine? The last photo in the PFs shows a huge runner (preuming it is an underground runner), I am afraid it may take over my flowerbeds if the runners are this large. I have planted several of them and am thinking about pulling them out if they run underground like the wild morning glories that come up everywhere.

No moon vines. We shy away from night bloomers because we retire early and get up very early. Also, many are white which DW is not as fond of, and we have so many others. Most of the wild MGs are in out of the way places and cause no problems.

Oops, I just looked at the seedling photo. The seed packet said Cardinal climber with no scientific name. They are not the cypress vine like I thought that they were. They are Ipomoea x multifida not Ipomoea quamoclit. I am very disappointed now because they will not be what I thought I planted. They do not appear to be as heavy bloomers as the cypress vine is. Oh, well. Maybe I can find some cypress vine seeds and get them planted quickly before it becomes too hot.

I planted the moon vines where security lights will light them up at night. I am a night owl myself. The security guards in my neighborhood who patrol the area ask me if I ever sleep because they see me in the yard during the day and very late at night.

Mosquitos have trained us.
The Cypress Vines love hot and wet. It is not too late. This year I will collect seeds. I have thousands coming up all over the place, some blooming.

This plant is beautiful. Is it different varieties planted together? Do you order a packet of mixed seeds? Where do you get the seeds?

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

This pic is absolutly beautiful. At first glance, it reminded me of fireworks lighting up the night sky! A friend just gave me some starts of the red, but I would love to have the pink and white to mix in with it like this. Just breath-taking!

This is the first year I am planting the Cypress Vine and the Cardinal Climber I found the Cypress Vine in red, pink and white in the Parks seed catalog. I started the Cypress Vine in pots for an early start since I live in the Northeast. I sure hope they do ok for me.
