What was I thinking? Went to a local "home store" to check out their plants only to discover everything was dead or at least on it's way. This was sitting on a shelf all by itself. The ONLY one in the whole garden center. I don't know anything about Passion Vines but it captivated me. I was debating whether I should take it or not when another shopper remarked to me "it's calling your name." I figured that was a sign from the gods that I should take it.
On my way to the cash register (I was still having some doubts) ANOTHER shopper said to me excitedly "oh how much is that Passion Vine?" I replied I was about to find out. $12.99 BTW. I don't know if that's a good price or not but I figured if two people commented on it than maybe I need to have it!
Well if I haven't bored you to death by now I would really appreciate some advice as to what to plant this in. In ground or pot? If pot how big? Will it overwinter in the house? How big do these vines grow in a pot?
I told you....what was I thinking?
Thanks for all suggestions
Toni

Passion Vine-Serratifolia
Toni, the picture didn't come out. Could you send one to zostropz@aol.com and I can verify it for you. I have Serratifolia in my own collection. I will give you more info on it tonight.

This is my first time growing a passion vine and I am amazed at how fast mine is growing. I planted it two months ago as a very small seedling and it has already reached the top of my patio roof and is inching onward by several inches a day! I never dreamed they grew this fast. It is also covered with buds which should start opening any day now, Mine is planted in the ground and gets sun all morning and shade during the hottest part of the day. In your area it should be able to take sun all day. The vines will die back upon temperatures below 32F but will regrow from roots when the weather warms up again. I'm not sure about growing them in a pot.
Hi Sharonf!
I received an email from zostropz advising me to put the vine in a pot and bring it in come winter. That's all do-able for me but I was wondering how big this thing was going to be when I did finally bring it in! I wonder if I could prune it to a manageable size before I bring it in? Or should I actually let it die back and then just keep the pot inside?
Any suggestions?
Appreciate the advice RH and a big thanks for the warm Good Morning!
Toni, get a trellis that has a roundish form and, as it grows, wrap it around and around the round trellis. This way, you will have lots of growth and more chances for flowers and you won't have to cut much back when you bring it inside for the winter.
That's a good idea Clare. I'll have to check out our local Big Lots and see if they have anything. Maybe a kind of obelisk (spelling?) would work.
Thanks
Toni
Toni, exactly right. Even a cheap tomato cage would work, but there are fancier and taller ones.
Edited to fix spelling:-)

Looks like Toni is going shopping tonight! I wonder what I'll come home with this time?
If you have a Costco near you, they have some nice obelisks at a good price.
Costco is not far at all.....I'll give it a look. Thanks Clare!
Hi all!
I made a mistake and posted in the Photo forum before I realized this was where I originally started. Anyway guess what? My Passion Vine bloomed today! Almost one month after I bought it. It sure grows fast and the blossoms are like nothing I've ever seen before. I love it!
Two opened today and theres about 5 more buds getting ready.
Serratifolia is like that. All the buds will open over just a few day's and then the cycle will start all over again. This thing will probably go through at least about 3 or 4 or more blooming cycles in one season. Have fun with it, it's a nice plant.
