My first Brug

Atascadero, CA(Zone 8a)

I stopped at the Fresno State Produce store to check out the latest plants from the greenhouse that they were selling and they had this marked as a hold for someone on May 1. Being it was May 12, I mentioned it reallly need to go home (as in my home LOL) and they agreed. SOLD! It smells heavenly in the evening, perfuming my living room when I have the slider open. This is a totally new departure for me, so I'm soliciting advice on what to do with it. . .just basic care for now. It has alot of new growth coming out of base and lots of buds swelling on the trunk. Pot is labeled as a hybrid brug only. TIA.

How Pretty! Love those tendrils! And the yellow is so bright and nice. Congratulations!
My understanding is that you don't want to overwater. of course if you have it outside with good drainage in a pot you probably will have more of the other problem.. They like a lot of fertilizer. high 1st and third numbers with low middle number. Other people will be able to tell you more than I though.. Welcome to Brugville.. (You DID know that Brugmansia are like Lay's potato chips yes? No one can have just one??)

Thanks for the welcome. Here's another better shot of the true color. Just hope I can keep it happy. Shade or sun better, or partial shade?? It's dappled shade where it is now.

Hi Janet, how lucky to find such a large Brug and already in bloom too.
Dappled shade or morning sun/afternoon shade I think will be fine in your zone.
There are some here that are closer to your zone that can give you some good growing advice.
Congrats on your first Brug.

Beautiful, Janet. Welcome to the Brug addiction. LOL

Looking good! So does Clovis get very hot? If so you can put it in morning sun, later shade. Water and fertilize a lot in summer. It likes a lot of room, so a big pot or in the ground. I bet it would overwinter where you are if you have a protected, warmer corner. WELCOME!!

Thanks for the welcome. . .I've noted for ages all the activity in this forum and I guess it was just a matter of time before I had to get in the fray. It is in a 5 gallon container, and I'm going to repot it to a larger, more suitable home, prettier than the black plastic it's in. What kind of fertilizer is best. . .I have a triple 10 slow release veg/flower pelleted, Eleanor's VF-11 and Miracle Grow. . .any of those work? I think it overwintered in the greenhouse on the campus. We have a brug in a container outside at the garden where I volunteer and the docent drapes it w/burlap in the winter. It dies back to the ground and then comes out again. So, I think it will be OK under my patio with a little protection unless we have a killer freeze, which does happen every 10 years or so. I might even consider putting it in the ground, have several places in mind, it's just that dratted gardener with his weed wacker that's holding me back. LOL
