yellow ladybugs?

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

There are bugs that look like yellow/cream colored ladybugs all over my Brug. Does anyone know what these are? Are they ladybugs, or some other bug that will eat my plant?

Oh no, cucumber beetles, I bet. They make holes in everything. I shake the blooms and squish them. They have the knack of falling limp if disturbed, so you have to be quick!!

I saw my first cucumber beetle for the year on my daylily a few days ago. They have stripes instead of the dots...they mostly chew on the buds and leave the blossoms a mess....

Kell...mine look like this...my own photo...I have seen the ones with dots...but not many like I see these...

Yours is prettier, Margie. LOL. So does that one eat everything too?? I get the spotted ones but usually not till summer. Though in the last 2 years I have hardly had any! I think word got out that I spend hours squishing them

Mine seem to stay so busy on my daylilies that they don't look for anything else! So far anyway!!! This year I have only seen one so far, but I know the others cannot be far behind! I do not like them!!

Squish squish Margie!! LOL You better get busy!!

I have these beetles on everything. They have eaten my petunias, the leaves on my brugs, and my iris blooms. I didn't know what they were. I have too many to squash. What's a good spray?

I'm grateful to report that I have not seen either of those rascals, whew!! Yours looks like it means business, Margie, all dressed up and ready to go...

kell, the beetles look just like that. Last night I sprayed the plant with some insecticidal soap. There where tons of them. It's funny that they've left my cucumbers alone though...

Sylvia and Aggiecorgi, from the link above it says:
General-use insecticides will provide control if you completely cover the plant (making sure that you treat upper and lower leaf surfaces as well as stems). Soap-type insecticides are not effective for beetle control. After the plants are 4 to 5 inches tall, beetle feeding usually stops and will not be a problem for the rest of the season.

They are talking about veggies here, I think they like our flowers no matter how old. .

From what the article said, I do not know if the insecticide soap will work for you Aggiecorgie.

I have them everywhere and they are making my brugs look like swiss cheese (leaves AND blooms!!)! I squish the rotten little things whenever I see them.

FYI my 3/20 posting on this thread http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/492417/

I've never used this because, knock on wood, I don't have them, but supposedly this works very well

I thought those yellow looking lady bugs were "asian beetles".

The orange ones are. Lady beetles are more round in shape than cucumber beetles.

Talstar is the product I have started using and it works great. I'm glad this came up because I need to order. One spraying generally takes care of them for me and I had them really bad for years. This was the only product that I found to work. I haven't tried the squash recipe and unfortunately, I don't have time. When they arrive I want to nip them in the bud and Talstar works.
