Brugs in a whiskey barrel

Louisville, KY(Zone 6a)

If I put a bag of rocks in the bottom of a whiskey barrel, will the water drain well enough to plant a Brug in it? I was using the barrel as a "fountain" on the side of my pond. It still has the liner in it and I dont really want to take the liner out. If I get another wild hair and decide, next year, to put the barrel back by the pond, I'll need the liner. The brug probably shouldn't be water logged, so I need to know if anyone has used a container that didn't really have holes in the bottom, just about 1/4 of the barrel filled with rocks for drainage.

You need real drainage , aka holes in the pot, for your brug to stay healthy.

More brugs die from root rot than any thing else.

I have two 1/2 whiskey barrels I plant Brugs in but I drilled holes in the bottom for drainage.
