Apricot Queen

Deltona, FL(Zone 9a)

Saw this on Ebay,,Apricot Queen.. I didn't know it had been released in the states..I contacted the seller and she said it was and some one on DG had it. Has it been here PLMK

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

do you have the link to the auction?

Deltona, FL(Zone 9a)

The auction ended..It was item #4380764556 sold for $13.49 to etteb sold by gmac Columbus GA.I questioned this seller as to being able to sell this plant in the states ..I was told there was another dealer on another site selling also and it was indeed Apricot Queen and had been here for awhile now...If I find that this plant really has been released in the states I will find one,,,I want it for breeding.. But, I want to be sure of everything before I spend any money on it..And I really don't want a little stick.

Deltona, FL(Zone 9a)

I believe this is going to be a very important brug for hyb.is the states..if pollin can be obtained. There are some good crosses to come. And I did find out she is in the states,,It happened before restrictions were in place. There are not to many around and those that do have them really don't want to sell..That is why I question the one on ebay being real. I think it would have sold for a bit more ...except some didn't know what it was. And I questioned the plant being gen.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

I know that Ludger has or had 'Apricot Queen' , and there was one that tiG had but it was called 'Apricot Smoothie', Monika has it or had it...http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/320873/
And Liz from Van Couver, BC http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/306994/ & another pic of it here of Liz's AQ...http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/348679/

Guess my search for you wasn't too much help cos' they're out of the country but hey, maybe if you find someone that sells them you can share with us too :-)

Hugs
Julie

She sure is pretty isn't she. :-)

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Julie...are you saying that Apricot Queen and Apricot Smoothie are the same one?
I have a small cutting that I have just rooted labeled Apricot Smootie, I wonder??? Looks like it is a special one if it is...I better go and check out what it looks like!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

According to my records, Apricot Queen is a wildform and Apricot Smoothie is a hybrid by Eric Knight.

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

Apricot Smoothie is a new-ish hybrid - about 2 years ago, I think, hybridized by E. Knight and grown/introduced by tiG (per my records).

Apricot Queen is a completely different brug. Other than it came to the US by way of Europe, I don't know anything about it - other than I think I might have it, lol. I was just sent some cuttings, and I think one was labeled this. I didn't pay much attention at the time because I'd not heard of it. I'll have to double check the tag tonight!

Just curious, cinnabor, (because, like I said, I know very little about this brug and therefore hadn't considered it for breeding {that's if I actually even have it}), why do you think it will be important for breeding? I'm getting into hybridizing and am learning any and all thoughts and opinions I can.

Thanks!

Deltona, FL(Zone 9a)

Because it's just about the best versicolor/hybrid there is. It is pure versicolor //// Preissel hybrid who is director of Herrenhauser Garten... The possiblities are endless for us here in the states to improve and add to our Brugmansia's. Not that I have any but, the thought of crossing it with Kaskade pollen...Wow! I have many idea's and with time maybe I'll be able to do some. It is time for breeders here in the states to do some interesting breeding. We need our own Double.triple Orange one that doesn't take forever to bloom just for one.. Buy Preissel's book a real good read!!!

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

No lol...they are separate brugs by two separate people. Thats what I was trying to say up there

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

That's good to know, cinnabor. Hopefully it will do well for me so I can replace the seemingly dozens of Versi Peach I have.

Deltona, FL(Zone 9a)

Carter, versi peach...nice plant also and I would keep your best spec. of that as well. We never know where that new beautiful brug will come from. But if we start with the best we know we are ahead of the game. I once just loved them all, But that just keeps giving us more look alikes and it's harder and harder to tell the difference and nothing special will come of it. I believe if you have never tried to pollenate a brug try on the everyday type to prefect your method...than go nuts...Good luck to all here's to a year of new and wonderful crosses.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

I'm pretty sure that AQ is a hybrid by Prissel done at Herrenhauser Garten.

EDITED........... Sorry cinnabor, I failed to read your post ;-(
