Herbs-Dividing Lemon Grass

Perris, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi!! Everybody!!

I have a question that I am not sure who to ask. I have taken away most of the surrounding plants around the Lemon Grass so it would grow bigger. The reason I did this is that the Pastor and a couple of other people have asked for Lemon Grass plants from ours. I know that it needs dividing but I am not sure how or when to go about it. I figure as big as it is it should divide into at least five plants. Can anybody advise me on this?

Thanks,

Chuck

Speaking of lemongrass. My lemongrass only grow about 30" tall. I just have it planted next to the fence in my back yard. Is it the type of lemongrass? When I buy it at the asian grocery stores, I know the whole stock was probably 6 foot tall.

foolcontrol,

I think there are a lot of different varieties of Lemon Grass, although I don' tknow for sure. Our Lemon Grass is a little shorter than yours and looks more like grass. I have never bought Lemon Grass at the Asian store, although my wife is Asian. My wife uses the Lemon Grass in Fish Soups. Occasionally she will put some in my vegetables and it is a good seasoning.
