Who uses D.E. around their brugs

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

I just bought some and put it down. I have heard it works well to keep the slugs away. Just wondering what everyone thought of it. I will report back after I have tried it. From what I have read it seems to work. I am game to try anything.

I use DE on many plants. It works well for slugs! I normally don't have slug problems on my brugs....but they sure do love the hostas!

Ummm what is DE?

diatomaceous earth

Knoxville, TN

I use the DE and it works well. The only problem I have is remebering to reapply it after it rains. I also save coffee grounds and scatter them around the trunks my Brugs. It seems to help, however, those slugs are pretty sneaky!

Ummmm OK, guess I'll just look it up lol, cos' I have no clue what the stuff is!! ...thanks Kay :-) For the those that don't know what this diatomaceous earth is (like myself) lol...here's some good reads to gain knowledge of it.

Julie, our pool filter uses DE so we have plenty on hand. I've used it for years to keep the slugs away. It is really corse to them when they crawl over it and I've read (somewhere) that it cuts their bodies, therefore they won't crawl on it. I just wish the greenhorned tomato worms were effected by it. LOL

Wouldn't that be great Brinda! Those big huge green black-eyed worms are so gross and can leave your plant leaves a mess! Well like I say...I learn something new everyday...lol...I had never heard of this
'diatomaceous earth' or (DE) in my life but wouldn't mind a bit trying some of it...if it works, and it must

Thanks Brinka, you workin'?

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Nope....not working today (though I should be).....I'm playing outside in the garden and then taking a few coleus to a friends house. They have a new house and a brand new garden....wooohooooo....this should be fun!

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

For those who have never seen a tomato hornworm, I have a nice shot that I took last year in my tomatoes. It wasn't intentional, I had just shoved my camera into the tomato foliage to get a closer shot and low and behold when I went to the computer to edit the pic..there the little devil was! He soon took a swim in some soapy water!

Yes.. he was probably only a couple days old and about 2-3 inches long.. the odd thing is that he was the only one I ever found and I never found any chewed leaves..
