Does anyone grow this? It is supposed to taste like cilantro maybe stronger. I have a friend that likes cilantro so much but it always bolts and she gives up so I thought this might work.

Papalo instead of cilantro
I keep using cilantro leaves even after the plant has bolted :D
Spectrum do you have a picture of your cilantro? Mine was doing great until I had to move them from under the porch to a shady spot in the yard and now the poor things look sickly. Just wanted to know what other peoples looked like so I could maybe do something different on my next batch.
This year's cilantro isn't up yet and I didn't take any photos last summer. All I have is a little growing in a pot indoors - which isn't the best example as it is extra small like most of my potted herbs. Sorry.

Papalo [Porophyllum ruderale] http://www.freshcutherbs.com/herbofthemonthpapalo.htm
I need to find some of this cause I want to try it. Our cilantro never makes it during the summer cause of the heat so this might work out well.
Thanks for the link MaVie!
I am going to grow some culantro as soon as I find the source. My cilantro went to seed about 3 weeks ago. Culantro will stand up to the heat and tastes the same. In Costa Rica I had culantro and could not tell the different from cilantro.
I just got a catalog from Richter's and they offer plants and seeds of Culantro. Call it MEXICAN CORIANDER, Eryngium foetidum.

Guess you might want to check the garden watchdog on Richters, though. Not the greatest ratings.

Looks like Johnny's selected seeds also sell Culantro seeds. May be a better bet.
added garden watchdog link for Richters.

Here is another site with pretty detailed info on seeding plus you can buy the seeds.
Welllll, just to follow up.... Kim and I have both sniffed at the leaves on the papalo (I took a tiny, brave nibble) and found it to be HORRIBLE!! Then again, I don't think either of us love cilantro, so that may be part of the problem. I took a leaf for a friend to try, and I had to put it into a sealed baggie so I could stand to have it in the car.... it is really powerful. BTW, Kim, Valerie loved it (go figure), so now I will be on the lookout for a plant for her.
Cilantro can be an acquired taste. And I've heard that some people never like it as for some it tastes 'soapy'. Some sort of genetic tastebud thing. For me, I like it sometimes and sometimes I don't - sort of have to be in the right mood :) I've never tasted/smelled papalo, but if the flavor is similar I would guess that the same sort of things would apply.
That plant is gone from my house as of today! I had the SO take it over to it's rightful owner. I didn't even want it in my car.
BTW Jill - got it at the Farmer's Market for .99

Hello,
You can find papalo seeds ans quillquina seeds (bolivian coriander) at this places. I previously bought from the 2 first ones. If you like cilantro you will probably just love these plants. Papalo is more citrusy than quilquina but both are quite strong tasting and smelling.
Enjoy yourselves
