Niki, plumerias are tropical trees. You can grow them in containers in your zone and bring them inside for the winter. They will go dormant in cold weather and drop their leaves, and then you can move them into your garage or basement for the winter. Here's a link about plumerias and their care: http://www.plumeriapeople.com/psa/PlumeriaCare.html

thanks so much

Baton Rouge, LA(Zone 9a)

I live in Baton Rouge and potted my first cuttings about 1 month ago. One plant has about 1 inch of leaf growth. The other 3 are getting off to a much slower start. I just can see a tiny amount of growth.
The cutting with the 1 inch growth must be from a more mature plant because the "stalk" is gray in color, not green. From other websites I have learned that the grayer the color the faster the rooting. Must be true. I bought my cuttings while I was on vacation in Orlando. They were selling 4 cuttings for $25.00. "Just Plumerias" is the company. They also have a website. Let me know if you end up trying to grow these. Maybe we can learn together. Good luck.

I'm looking for niki who has failed to simply acknowledge receipt of a brug I sent her. She is not responding to private email either which is where she approached me with the cutting request. I didn't even ask for postage.

Blaine, that was really nice of you to send out a brug cutting without even asking for postage. That kind of generosity is rare these days. When I was first starting out with gardening and growing brugs, I traded nearly all that I had just to have a few different cultivars, and I was extremely grateful to the people that took the time to send them to me.

A very kind soul sent me a plumeria cutting recently, and he wouldn't even take anything in return, nor would he let me pay for postage. I couldn't thank him enough for his thoughtfulness. It really moved me to be the recipient of such a gift, and I won't forget it.

I'm sure there must be a good explanation for Niki's nonresponsiveness. Maybe she went out of town. You can always leave her feedback if you are unable to resolve it by email.
