About a month ago, I saw a plant blooming along a Houston bayou that smelled delicious! The flowers and leaves were similar to Texas Mountain Laurel, but the blooms were white, and it wasn't a grape scent, just a luscious floral. In fact, a large Mtn. Laurel in bloom was located a few yards away. I read a bit and thought it might be Honey Locust, but this site says Honey Locust flowers are green, or almost unnoticeable. This had beautiful, short ,wisteria-like blooms of purest white. The leaves looked like Honey Locust. Anyone know what it could be? I'm going to try to go back and see if there are any seeds.
Texas Mountain Laurel-white?
I have no idea, but it sounds wonderful and I am anxious to see if anyone has an idea as to what it is.
It was probably Black Locust, ( Robinia pseudoacacia ) it is native to Oklahoma and Arkansas
and has naturalized in Texas.
Frostweed, I think you're right. I looked at a vendor's page, and the photo looks similar. The fragrance was unbelievable. If there are seeds, I'm going to try to grow it. Thanks for the help!
If you get any seeds, would you mind sending some my way? I can send you others in exchange.
Sincerely, Josephine.
