I went home this week to see my Sang finally blooming. Ony one bloom.... but at least a bloom. It's not too pretty though. I guess it was too much to think that it would grow in my climate.
One Sad Sang Bloom
That is very pretty Bambi. I'd love to have some reddish ones some day.
I planted two of my Brugs out in the soil the other day - the rest are staying in pots. So far they are looking good. They are in a warm place that doesn't get alot of wind.
I grow them in pots here, and bring them indoors during the winter. I'd love to have some cuttings.
Beautiful pic of the ocean there. Have they finished remodeling your house?
One's better than none and I bet she looked really good when first open. Still pretty colors.
Hey Bambi, your Sang doesn't look so bad. I wonder how old that bloom is. You just might be surprised to see many more.
I gotta get around and get all my stuff done so I don't miss AI tonight! P looks so cute there!
Who are you voting for?
Wow,I had to put that first pic up as wallpaper, beautiful!!!!
Think about it Bambi....who would I vote for? LOL Anyone there from the OK Corral? LOLOL
Hey....I like Shredded White! I wish I could smell it. The blooms are so strange, almost ugly that they are kinda neat. I think the new one that Alice has named Ribbons is pretty cool too.

Well, at least you got the sang to bloom, Bambi!! I am so impressed with that. So are you still in Malibu? That picture is just beautiful. I bet you can't wait to get home. Nothing is as good as home even if it is incredible.
I sure hope I will not go to jail for viewing that picture of the show last night. LOL Bambi, you will have to bail me out.
it's still a beautiful sang, I"m waiting for mine to Y.
Hey, is that glass of wine for me? LOL. It would kill me to leave my house and yard behind, but I think I was meant to boogie in Malibu. LOL
Oh no Kell.....don't you remember this thread and how much fun we had with it? I can't remember who that glass of wine ended up belonging to! LOL http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/444737/
lol! here we go again! :-)
I looked for "Sang" and didn't find any (other pics). I did find a pic of a Inca Queen that looks fairly similar to it. Just didn't show me the whole plant. There is an "Inca Princess" on the PDB at Dave's, but it is much more yellowish gold.
I am thinking there will be more blooms on the way if mom would get home and feed it. :-)

Your Sang is beautiful Bambi but I really love your first photograph of the beach. The sky and water are so calm and peaceful.
I am looking forward to my Sang getting big enough to get a bloom, she is growing very nicely so far, I purchased five more seeds to plant but will wait and see how this one does, it is the only one that made it out of the other five I bought on ebay
WAIT!
does this mean i can have a sang in my climate?
i'm in 8b. if you can get one to bloom in 10, I can definitly have one here!
oh please tell me yes. everyone always told me you just can't have one......its to hot. but your hotter than i am, right?
Well 10a is hotter than 8b. :-)
But, I think the difference is that while we may be 85-110F during the summers days our nights always cool down to 50-60F. Don't know if humidity is a factor either, but we have very little. It's a mystery because they do bloom for me. What have you got to lose...give it a try!
hot nights + high humidity = louisiana
Kell, that glass of wine is just waiting for you but you'll have to hurry. Let's boogie in Malibu. Liife here is so different from Beverly HIlls. It's like being on another planet. Brin??? You've been promising! Happenstance, I only wish any of my plants looked like yours. I have two fairly large Sangs that I've had for about 2 years but this is the first one to bloom. I think I may move them to a sunnier location.
I thought CA 'was' another planet. sheesh, I need to go study my globe again.
LOL Blaine.....it seems that far away to me!
Oh Bambi....I so wish I was there now! I want to kick back at Malibu before you go back to Beverly Hills! LOL I can't believe it's been almost a year. Wow....doesn't seem like it.
Kell.....You can have the wine. I want one of Bambi's margaritas! But you have to mix it Bambi....I know what a horrible bartender Paula is! LOL
You people are making me thirsty! I've been out in the garden for a couple of hours. Maybe I need to take a margarita break - sounding so good right now.
Happenstance - thanks for those links. Is Ms. Scarlet the same as Sang?
Karrie
"Ms. Scarlet" is the name she goes by, she came in a 4" pot and was labelled Scarlet. There isn't a cultivar by that name so she became "Ms. Scarlet" :-)
She is a Brugmansia sanguinea:

and this is the same as "Sang"? Why the name change?
"Sang" is slang for Sanguinea.
I just realized that, lol! It sounded like it could be the name of a particular one. So this one you have is a no name? I love the dark bloom.
You talkin' to me??? LOL
I'm sure this had a name at one time, but so far most retailers in California haven't caught on to the name game. Many come labelled as "Pink", "White", "Yellow" or in this case "Scarlet". This year I am seeing more and more Brugs with names which is a good sign. Validating the names is a whole other thing.
It sure would help! I just posted a new thread asking for help in knowing just exactly what I have, based on their names (what crosses they came from) and which ones I can cross and can't later, should I decided to get some seed pods to try.
Awe..........so pretty. Love that color.
Some very pretty ones! And I am getting ohhhhh so much more educated thanks to people like Shirl. :-)
They are all just sooooooooo pretty!!
