Lost quick launch bar icons(shortcuts)

Tonite I accidently moved my taskbar to the side. I looked on the net how to get it back to the bottom where I want it & was told to left click as I drug it. I got it back to the bottom but my quick launch bar is gone. What I missed the most would be the SHOW DESKTOP icon. I played around & found it in FIND & got the icon on my desktop but can't get it where it was in the bar. It goes behind it. How do I get it on the bar? How can I get all those icons back? I can't drag the bar over. I can on the other computer here but not on mine anymore. I could before now. I use that Icon a lot & would sure like it back on the bar.. HOW? I use windows 98.
I just noticed that I have BLACK space over & under my screen now. I have always had black on both sides but not over & under it. My 17 inch screen is getting smaller & smaller LOL But I'm not laughing :(

I GOT IT BACK.. after over an hour of trying I got iy back :)
