I have two 4.5 inch pots of these to trade... there are two plants in each pot. They're only a few months old and growing great! I got the seeds from an Australian source, but have since read that they are originally a South African plant. I would prefer to trade for something I don't have, preferably tropicals or sub-tropicals, vines, anything weird or uncommon.
Here's a link to the Plantfiles page on them: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/1222/index.html
It says never to let them dry out, but they don't seem to have any problems here in full sun as long as they don't go bone dry.
HAVE: Wachendorfia-Yellow spikey flowered lily
C'mon people, someone must want these...try something different and see how it does for you!:-)
They look wonderful but they will not live here outside or I would trade ya for them.
I would have liked 'em, but I don't have anything you want. lol!
If no one else comes along with a good trade, lmk. Don't compost 'em, what ever you do!

I am in the midst of growing from seed a bunch of ZA and AU stuff, but it is way too young. Your plants look great. Which seed source in Australia did you use. I haven't had much luck yet, ordered from two places no seeds yet, but both said it would take a while and I have plenty of others to do first. Do the proteacae do OK in your area?
Your plant tastes are the same as mine, I will check back and see what you are doing. Your area is probably a little more humid. We are dry and not a lot of humidity in the summer, but it doesn't get very hot here along the coast. So all the mediterranean stuff does very well.
Well, I guess I'll just hold onto them for awhile... I have six of them in a large clay pot that are twice the size of the ones in the picture. I was afraid to risk putting them in the ground until I could better estimate how they would do over the winter.
Chuck, good luck with your seed starting efforts... I got the seeds from a fellow DG'er, but the nasty Australian customs people destroyed the ones I sent in exchange. I'm still waiting for the wonderful import regulation materials they were supposed to send me around 5 months ago now... just a warning to anyone who plans to mail seeds to Australia, don't bother. They're apparently paranoid and quite invasive in examining any packages from abroad.
I also have quite a few South African seeds started right now, some not up yet, and some medium size seedlings. Would be happy to trade them in the future as well if they do ok for me.
I would love to try growing the Wachendorfia-Yellow spiky flowered lily. See my trade list on garden web. Have lots of tropical sub-tropical plants. I am in zone denial.
