Deer in garden

Battle Creek, MI(Zone 5b)

My friend and I are planting a large vegetable garden together this year. Co noticed a alot of deer around . Does anyone know of away that really works to keep deer from munching everything? We have both tried hanging hair, soap . We both want to stay as organic as we can.

Hi Linda,

I put in a large ornamental bed at our farmhouse in Au Gres. We have tons of deer. I bought a product called Liquid Fence at English Gardens. It is expensive but works really well. I have been going up weekends and spraying the flowers and so far (knock on wood) they deer and rabbits have not bothered anything. It smells horrible........kind of like rotten eggs but once it dries humans don't notice the smell. The directions say to spray once a week for three weeks and then monthly after that. I am not taking any chances and spray weekly. I had even planned on putting an electric fence around the area but since this is working so well I'm not going to bother.

Good luck. Oh..........a concentrated bottle of this runs $50. The smaller premixed bottle is $15. I buy the concentrate and mix myself.

I'm trying a product called Deer Scram.

I haven't received my order yet, but I've read and heard great things about it. I'm hoping I can avoid electric fences with this product.

It's organic. Dead animal carcus, sterilized, and mixed with things like hot pepper and garlic. The pepper is added to the formula to keep the dogs and cats away. This also works great for rabbits. Money back guarantee.

The best way to use it for large areas is as a perimeter - barrier The deer will not cross the barrier
One of the best attributes of this product is the deer do not get used to it, the odor trigers a fear instinct. Initially I think humans can smell it, but shortly after application the odor is not noticable to us.

The product also holds up to normal rain fall, a heavy rain can it washed it away but a normal rain does not weaken it any.

It acts as a 8-1-1 fertilizer also. It is organic will not hurt your pets. You put it down about every 45-60 days. Company says it has a 3 year shelf life.

The deer are still there just not in the garden using the scram.

Google it, and you will find online sources. I paid postage, but I think there are sites that will send it postage free to first time buyers.

Prices I've seen:
25lb cost $108 protect 32,400 square feet
6 lb cost $34.95 protect 5,400 feet
2.5 lb. cost $17.95 protect 1,600 square feet

Well fishking,
You've got that great bridge inviting them right in .................... what'd you expect? ;-)

Actually, I'm very surprised you'd have Deer in that area. It looks like you have a bit of land there though.
