Today I was looking at my mint and saw what appeared to be webs crossing the leaves. I tried to pull them away and found out that they were very tough and weren't breaking away. I looked closer and saw that formed under the leaves were these white cocoon like things. I found three of them on the plant. They were about 3/4"-1" long. Each one had formed under a mint leave, but had the tough strands attaching to other leaves. I cut those leaves off, but I was wondering if anyone had an idea to what that could be. I don't have a camera or I would have posted a picture. Any ideas?
Mint Pest
Open up one of the webs and see who's inside!
You might try asking Night_Bloom for an ID.... post this over on the "Friend or Foe" thread in the Garden Foes forum.
I went out this morning Critter to take a closer look (I had left them in the yard) and it had all disintegrated into a brown powder. It looked like a tiny ant bed. It was the weirdest thing! So much for cutting them open :)
I have alot of mints, have never seen this, though I have seen this tiny beetle, can't remember the color of him, he has a tad of orange in him though, he bites the leaves and leaves tiny brown spots all over the leaves where he bites. I get this quite a bit, have to pick the bugs off, cause I don't spray the mints. and cut off the bad spots. too
