I have been reading that brugs are heavy feeders. How often should they be fed and is MG alright to use?
Heavy feeder?
Some feed them twice a day Marilyn, once in the morning and once at night. I only fertilzed last year once a day but now that I've got a well based water supply I can do it as many time's as I wish. .... It's your own personal preference.
Good luck dear
Julie
Twice a day, Julie? Do you mean twice a week? I normally tried to fertilize twice a week....didn't always get it done, but I sure tried to.
I (like Brinda) try to fertilize twice a week for my brugs in pots. Less for brugs on the ground.
I use MG and sometimes use Mag Sulfate.
Ah oh, I better go out and get busy. LOL You all just reminded me that I need to toss some osmocote in my pots.
fertilize once at a.m. then water that evening if they need it....but yes I have done that & it didn't hurt mine a bit. I use Peters diluted with water from a hose spray. They are in the ground now & its been very hot here...so it needs water usually. Its my preference and you can do whatever works for you. Also, full sun here so they need water & fert doesnt hurt them ,,,,,,as long as they are happy,,, I am!!!!
typing w/ 1 finger isnt easy, I'm feeding the GD :-)
I feed mine twice a week and usually add the dry fertilizer right to the dirt in the pot and water it in...I know some people whould cringe but I was taught this by a lady and tis working for me....and the MG or Petes is 20/20/20 when they are starting to bud...Judy
It really doesn't hurt in my own experience if you have the fertilizer to do it with. Mine is also 20/20/20 Peters (water soluable) or whatever is laying around the house at the time. I can say this....I was also taught they are heavy feeders and that I've learned to be true. They will eat as much as you will give them lolol...I used osmocote last year and it worke well but I kinda like to get out in the yard and water...it's like cutting grass with the riding lawn mower lol..gives me time to think and vent :-)
Have a wonderful day
Hugs
Julie
I am using liquid MG and have some liquid Peter's Bloom Booster. My plant is in the ground so I guess this should be enough of a feeding.
Thanks,
Marilyn
I just have to remind myself when the weather gets hot and dry:
"The more frequently I have to water, the more frequently I need to use fertilizer because it is flushed out/away by the water."
I get stuck on a routine like 'every week' and it's hard to break the habit.
Judy
