Caught this picture today as my daughter and I were galavanting around, mother's day style. laff.

That's a tree I've never seen....always wanted to plant one since we live on Chestnut St. :)

Nice photo, Joan. It's so clear! That would be a good one for the PlantFiles, if you were so inclined. Thanks for posting it,

I would but don't understand all the different categories that I have to fill in.

I hear ya - it can be daunting. Maybe the plant is already there - I took a quick look for "chestnut", but it came up with a bunch of different entries and I wasn't sure what its botanical name was. Or even if it's not already in there, it's fairly easy to add a plant, and you could just leave all those check boxes blank if all you wanted to do is add a photo - lots of other people do that. But either way, it's a great pic! :-) Thanks again.

There is this site Joan: http://www.songonline.ca/nuts/chestnut.htm . If it's an old tree it might be Castanea dentata.

Here's the Plantfile link for it: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/58152/index.html

Pam, the picture was taken in a cemetery and the tree was planted in memory. I have a feeling this information is probably correct. laff

Pam, what am I seeing when I click on the link? Is that the same tree?

Joan, who still doesn't have some things figured out here on DG.

It should be the correct entry for yours.......the name 'Briotii' and the cross is there. I don't know if the person who posted the tree pictures there entered them in the right one or not tho.

I noticed yours is often refered to as Red Chestnut......some sites list it as Ruby but others don't. The cultivar name and cross tho do match yours.

OK Pam, I have put it in the Plantfiles. Looks like there's a wait before it will actually appear.

Signing off now,

Good night..... Joan

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

It's there now! Looks great, Joan.

Gosh, I hope you don't regret sharing it with us now, after all the extra work & questions that have resulted! :-) I wouldn't blame you if you did. Well, it's a good addition to that PF entry so thanks again.

BTW...nice weather here today finally....hope the same is true down your way.

Cheers,
Shannon

spklatt, Am I missing something? laff Why would I regret sharing it?

Wish I could say it's nice weather here too, but it has cooled down, not warmed up!

Just thought we may have caused a bunch of extra work with that PF idea. :-)

Well here's a pic of a tree blooming in our back yard. I haven't ID-ed it yet - some kind of ornamental plum or cherry or something. Have definitely ID-ed the cat - domestic short hair, parentage unknown, human name Scruffy! He's at the vet's right now, getting his teeth cleaned....will be unimpressed for some time, I think.

Shannon, they're lovely - both the tree and Scruffy. laff It's a cute name for a cat, even though he doesn't look the least bit scruffy.

Thanks, Joan! When Scruffy decided to adopt me and come in off the streets a few years ago in Edmonton, he was definitely scruffy-looking. His fur was grey with dirt. He's cleaned up since then, but still loves to go out & roll in the dirt if we give him half a chance.

Now he and our other cats (Franklin & Sophie) mostly have to be content with supervising us through the windows, when we're outside gardening. :-)

Poor Scruffy! But he will benefit in the long run. Nothing better for dog or cats than clean healthy teeth.
