Two questions:
I've read a little about palm sunscreen at http://www.raingardens.com/psst/articles/artic04.htm and was wondering if anyone knows of any specific brands that would be good for palms? Trying to help out my little ones that were not properly sunsitized and are getting a little burnt. I have used some anti-transpirant on them, thats about it.
I'm going to build a small shade house for growing seedling to 5gal, maybe 15 gal size palms, and all different species. I was wondering if anyone knows or has a suggestion about what % shade cloth I should use? I was thinking about using 50%.
Thankyou
palms and sun
I don't know if there is an exact number that is perfect, but I have used 50% and 70% before, and guess it depends on what you eventually plan to do with the palms... if it's to get them acclimated, I would go for the lower percentage... but if it's a permanent location, might go for the higher one (great for palms that like light but just never really want to 'see' the sun directly (like some Chamaedoreas). However, I find that you still get some leaf burn no matter what you do or how slow you go... just lessens it.
