Jen....is that the back or front of the leaf?

Foley, AL

Oh I know he has cool stuff.... where did you get it ms jen?

thats the front of it....
janet and i got it from donnab this past fall, it was gorgeous before i got ahold of it. ....it was given her as a thank you, i think by someone that her and her husband rescued in the sound. it came from a florist with no id in the pot.
its spent the winter in the greenhouse and just came out a few weeks ago. its starting to get new leaves and i'm hoping that it will start looking better

did it have any tag on it from wall mart? they were selling a bunch of one gallon with out name but our wall marts can't be that different.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

i believe she said it came from a florist

Livermore, CA

Looks like Philodenron 'Black Cardinal'
Kind of a slow grower, but lovely especially new growth.

Jen,
Mine doesn't look very good right now, either.
It was looking great a few weeks ago. I had brought it outside when it warmed up in early March, then we had that late cold snap, and it looks pretty sad right now.
I think Black Cardinal is the one we saw at the Mobile show, and we weren't positive that this was it. Mine has some spots on the leaves, kinda orangey, the one in Mobile didn't.

whew, feel much better knowing yours doesnt look so hot, lol.
look up "prince of orange" and let me know what you think......it may turn out to be a no name hybrid and we'll never know.

Northern California, CA

You might also try 'Autumn' http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/64881/ ......looks like yours is sunburned perhaps. 'Prince of Orange' would be a possibility as you said, try giving it some shade out of the wind and see what it does.

Foley, AL

I was thinking autumn, too.

wallyworld had them for 4.97 for a gallon down here last year.

A local nursery had prince of orange, I didn't get it, because nothing in the nursery was priced and it is such a pain when there are no prices on anything. Anyway, it's not prince of orange, there is no orange anywhere on it. Ely, remember last year you said it was unnamed and just had a #???

Foley, AL

That is true and that is when they get you I hate nurserys like they the normally sell on the size of the plant and not a flat price....... Yes I do remember that. But that one looked different... I think ms jen is either giving it to much or to less sunlight. it is a patented pending plant. meaning it had a patened numeber. you get a tag sometimes that says "patented pending #123456789 can not be resold."....but says nothing about tradeing.

guess what you guys are going to be jelous of me. I have got two connections to some major colues.....=) I have been trading with nurserys....LOL The one I love the most so far is tilt-a-world and well you know how it goes. yall will get it later.....there working on getting 200 types. from some wholesaler.... =)

hey I herd that the extention has pulled plants like morning glory tree "pipe plants" crotons out of growers/ wholesalers cause they are invaseive. in Fl. The nursery up the road told me they called to order some and that they are being burned or something.

Yeah, they had some really "fine" plants, but without prices, I just turned away. I have gone to nurseries like that before, and usually they give you prices depending on their mood that day, or how short my shorts are. LOL!! But, you get the picture. I hate to keep saying "How much is this, or how much is that??" They had a bird's nest anthurium--I had to ask the price on it, it was $75!!!! It was a really nice plant, but I was afraid it wasn't hardy, and who has room for a plant the size of a 5 year old sago palm in their house??!!??
I was, at first, leaning towards black cardinal. Anything specific on black cardinal that would help to identify it as possibly black cardinal??
Janet

Well Janet, youre the one that could get away with the shortie shorts, lol. Need to take you shopping with me next time....I'll ask the price and you just kinda saunter by, k?
Did you look at the coleus i posted? Yours is there, lol

Ocean Springs, MS(Zone 8b)

LOL!!! DH always sends me to get the brake sticker on both vehicles because they always find some little thing to reject him. He tells me everytime, go put on your short shorts and get me a sticker, please!! LOL
I think we should bring ely with us to this particular nursery, though. LOL
Saw the coleus, can't wait to get mine!!!!
