When I was a kid our Mother used to let us order something "different" each year. One year my sister and I ordered peanuts and "Ground almonds".....here in Sask the peanuts were a bust but the ground almonds grew. They were a grassy clump plant and the "tubers" clustered under them actually tasted somewhat like almonds. Does anyone know what these actually were? Searches on-line for ground almonds seem to net only ground(up) almond recipes and trees to grow the usual almonds.
Hope someone can help.
Ground almonds
Chufa; Use to grow them when I was a kid. Taste pretty good but I was always hungry back then. It is a relative of nutsedge so it can be a pesky weed in warmer climates. Last I saw advertised was from Shumway.
