help with bottom drain
Hi Lisa,
I just finished doing a bottom drain for the pond I'm building. It's really fairly easy and yes, can be done with a submersible pump, but it's best if the pump is inside a skimmer box because the pump is what creates the vacuum through the drain.
If you go to the thread "Watch the progress in Washington State", you can see the bottom drain design I used. It cost me all of about 25$ to make and I do think it will be well worth it. Also, I did not want to put a hole in the bottom of my liner, so I attached the drain through a hole in the side of the pond. That way if the connection did leak, it would be easier to fix and I wouldn't have to drain the entire pond to get to the leak.
The connection between the bottom drain and the skimmer box was a bit harder to do but this is likely because I didn't know what I was doing at first! LOL
I think I have more photos of the plumbing than what is posted on the other thread. If this is what you are looking for, post again and I'll post you some pictures on this thread.
HOpe this is helpful. I'll be glad to share my experience if it's what you are looking for.
