Butterfly metamorphosis - now I understand

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

I posted my 'first' brug bloom recently which was kind of a let down.

Tonight I witnessed the wonder described repeatedly in this forum courtesy of a Butterfly cutting which I think I got from Brugie.
(do you recognize the little yellow marker?)

In this collage, the lower left shot was last night. Middle is tonight approx 8pm and the far right and top shot was at 10:30.
The aroma in the basement reminds me of Johnson&Johnson's baby powder.

I'm in love now...

One of my favorites!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

One of my favorites too and I love the scent.

The scent still smacks of baby powder this morning but I believe she's more of a salmon color. Thats one bloom - it must be near overpowering when theres a group of them blooming at once.

Blaine, congratulations on the bloom of your baby.
The collage is beautiful!

Thanks. DM thought it was 3 or 4" in size from the pics.
I did a quick ruler check and the corolla is 6". It's 10" to the base of the calyx.

Yep, that is one of my tags. Isn't she a nice one. You will get better color from her once outside, but that last one looks pretty good for color. She's one of my all time favorites and she doesn't mind the sun either. I can almost smell her from here. I'm glad you like her.

You know, since she hasn't gotten her metal marker yet, then she must've been one of the little hitchhikers that came home with me in mid-March! Guess she likes it in the dungeon.

The Forevermorr cutting I got from Renee was goofing along in the basement but wasn't real enthusiastic. I repotted her again and moved to the hoop house. Oh, she's liking that!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

My Butterfly, outside, has about a dozen buds. Will be a while for a bloom as they are just small. I don't have ForeverMorr but wish I did.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, what comes around, goes around so don't let me forget. When Brugie's Forevermorr gets extra branches I can make cuttings from, I'll pass along Renee's generosity. I guess it's ok since it's been released.

Blaine, it's gorgeous! I love Butterfly, with her long tendrils and recurve...how could something so beautiful not have a wonderful aroma. Lovely! I'm gonna get one of those one of these days I hope. I have some crosses with it from seedlings growing out but not on it's own. Awesome job! Once again, you have that touch.

WOW Blaine, that is quite a picture there. She is just beautiful!!!

Blaine, you just thought you were addicted to Brugs before you got that bloom, now you truly are!!!

Beautiful pictures, thanks for taking the time to share them with all of us.

Thanks Julie, Kell and Judy... I can't imagine what it could be like this summer if I was to have as many blooms open at once like I've seen in your wonderful pics. Glazed eyes, slobbering and wandering around talking to myself will probably get the cops called on me or in the fall I'll discover the family packed and moved.

i love those progression pictures. I feel like in Zion, IL watching this garden. very very pretty

Just realized last night how easy it was to pull different frames onto a single canvas in Picture It! 7.0. Pretty handy for the price, if I'd delve a little further into the options and play a bit. Tropical Sunset has a fat, dwarf banana looking bud ( 1 ) out in the hoophouse, so I think I'll take a series of shots on that providing it doesn't drop or I accidentally knock it off. Butterfly actually had 2 other buds. One dropped on it's own but I think I might have knocked the other off just as the tendrils were emerging from the calyx. I did a LOT of praying over this 3rd one. :)

Sweet! Give it a sniff for me!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I swear, every time I look at these pictures I get a whiff of that baby powder smell. I know my mind is playing tricks on me. No babies around here. LOL! No Butterflies either. Brugs that is.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Your Butterfly is beautiful, Blaine. What a neat scent for a flower. Enjoy!

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

I just recently planted a Butterfly. I've got to run out there and urge it on. Can't wait for blooms like that. Very pretty!

I'm sniffin' here.... thanks all for sharing in my Uni-Bloom. gggg

You know, I was wondering what it smells like to others? Now that Brugie mentions it, maybe it's that initial soft 'baby' pink. Weird, but thats what it smells like to me and I LIKE it. I'm assuming the fragrance is more intense with some summer heat and probably smells different but those pics will always remind me of baby powder. Now that I think of, don't those bottles use pink and blue?

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

I find many brugs smell of baby powder with varying intensities.

To my 'sniffer' Cupid's Blush has the most pronounced baby powder fragrance of any I have had.

She is one of the group that I will always have in my garden.

Merriam-Webster may update their current version. Look up enamor and they'll have a pic of me with nostrils flared, eyes glazed over and a stupid grin on my mug.

Very pretty Scoot - and a better fragrance to boot? If you're going to the RU this weekend, don't be put off if I sneak up and try schmooze a future cutting. :)

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

LOL Blaine! Great job on the collage you made too btw and your flower is beautiful...I think I said that but I keep coming back to look at it time and again and hoping I can sniff through the screen. NOT! not working...
