I know someone has to grow this, I have Colocasia gigantea to trade for some. The sugarcane is green with white stripes.

Yes, I grow the green and white striped cane. How cold hardy is the colocsia gigantea? I would love some.
may i inquire, what is the scientific name of striped sugercane?
Official name Saccharum officinarum, no cultivar name given.
yup i've got a ton of this stuff growing in my backyard, its variegated? i always thought it was variegated bamboo. thanks yall solved a mystery for me :)
i cant find anything at all about the variegated version of Saccharum officinarum
anyone got a link or a pic or anything?
it sounds very interesting... would have to be a nice alternative to the plain green stuff growing all over the place here..
does it taste better than the stuff growing in the fields everywhere down here?
is it better or not quite as good as the purple cane (i loooove thick purple cane...)
Hi I would like some also,, is it hardy to zone 5?

twentytwolibras, you may have a stand of giant reeds instead of sugar cane. Here is a pic of variegated sugar cane stem http://www.botgard.ucla.edu/html/MEMBGNewsletter/images/volume4/Saccharumvariegated.jpg
and here is just plain green sugar cane, but they all grow the same way

Here is the variegated giant reed grass. Here it gets 10-15 feet tall and grows in moist places, like along the waterways and resacas. http://www.lilyblooms.com/images/CattailsAndReeds/GiantVarReed.jpg
