Does anyone know who hybridized this plant? I have a very nice plant and it is about to be in full bloom. Sorry no pics but,I am having a major time locating pics in my computer once I download them from the camera.

Bert will be the first brug to bloom for me this year. It overwintered in the gh and had buds all winter long but didn't hold or open any of them because the humidity was so high in there.

Creamsickle should bloom next for me and the little plant is only about 2 ft tall. When those flowers open they will be longer than the plant is tall. Well not quite but almost!!

Sorry David, I don't have any information on Bert. Try to post us a photo. Linda

I don't think there is any information about this one. It was given to Liz in BC by a man named Bert, so she just called it by his name. No background known that I know of.

Shirley,
I did find this much out at one of those other sites that we're not supposed to mention on DG,so I won't mention the name.

Bert was introduced by someone named Jeanne Ralston from Canada. There is also a nice photo gallery of it but I didn't dare attach it here!!

You have mail coming, David. LOL! Not what you think either.

Liz received Bert from an Italian man that lived in Burnaby British Colombia. The brug was named Bert after him.

We presume Bert is an aurea or at least has aurea gold blood but we have no proof.

I was given Bert as an unnamed aurea multihybrid. The site has Jeanne's name in error. For some unknown reason people always mix us up.
It's a strong plant, large, the yellow color is good and it stands up to sun.

Glad that is straightened up, Thanks Liz

Thanks all for the info.
I have not left mine out in the ground yet to find out if it is winter hardy here. I just leave it in a pot and put it in the gh for the winter.

It was kind of puny last year but has filled out nicely now and is loaded with buds. Most have pushed thorugh the calyx already and will be open soon.

Can't wait to see a picture of it in full bloom David. It is a beautiful flower........I have to hang my head in shame after losing that wonderful plant that you sent me of Bert. I still can't believe that I killed it!!!! Have you figured out where your pictures are being saved on your computer?

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

No clue about the pics Frannie. Don't feel bad about killing the plant i'll get you another one going soon.

I sent Shirley one, yesterday was 2 weeks ago. It was equal in size to the one I sent you which was close to 2 ft tall and with a Y. I mailed Shirley's priority mail as I do with all of my packages and guess what? It got lost.

She still hasn't gotten it. I mailed 3 boxes that day,1 to TN, 1 to HI, and 1 to IA. The TN and HI boxes got there okay but the IA one never made it. I didn't have a tracking # for any of them but I have never had a problem getting boxes to the places they need too be.

I have spoken with people at the post office and they told me that there is nothing that can be done about it. I am wondering if maybe the mailing lable didn't come off of the box because it was turned up on one corner the day I mailed the boxes.

I called the PO back and asked about boxes that may have lost a lable and was told that they go to the dead claims department and they won't even consider doing a claim on it until the box has been missing for a minimum of 30 days. Well that doesn't do me or Shirley any good because the box contains live plants and can you imagine what they'll look like after 30 days?

Bert is growing like a weed right now and I didn't have any problems rooting it so Frannie and Shirley i'll get both of you a replacement for the ones you lost.

I am only using what I call sucker plants or side shoots for rooting material because I don't want to ruin the appearance of my tree by cutting on it.

David, you are absolutely right! The Bert you sent me is doing famously.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

No hurry. Don't sacrifice beauty for a start for me until way later. I'm in no hurry. Just save me some pollen. LOL! Works just as well.

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

Did yours bloom last year, David? I'd love to see pics when yours blooms this year. From other pics I've seen, it looks incredible, but I've never heard or seen pics from someone who's actually growing it. Looking forward to it!

By the day, I emailed you the other day and just wanted to make sure you got it - I sent it to the new address you sent me.

http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/306639/ Liz has this one in her garden growing very well. She is the person who introduced us to the brug here on DG.

I would love to go out right now and take a pic of Bert and post here. But I can't locate my pics once I download them from the camera. Maybe i'll try something different and see if I can get one posted here.

The tree will be in full bloom within a matter of days. It did have one or two flowers for me last year but the plant was till small and it never opened anymore. It kept buds on it all winter long in the gh but the humidity was so high in there that it never held the buds on loing enough for them to open.

I don't know anyone else who currently has Bert or at least I never see anyone posting about it. I know Susie had it and that is where I got mine from but I don't even know if she still has it or not.

I have shared or tried to share it with 3 people since this past fall . As you know from the above posts, Frannie's has since gone to brug Heaven, Shirleys is lost in the mail, courtesy of the US postal service, and Mel says hers is doing great.

Knoxville, TN

I just checked Bert and he is doing famously. I killed the one Susie gave me so am looking forward to seeing the parent plant of many of my seedlings yet to bloom. Thanks again! All the Brugs you sent me are rooted and growing!!!! Hope you can post a picture soon.

I always liked the looks of Bert. Can't wait to see you rnew pictures of him, David.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

That's about as funny as how my one brug got the name Karyn Riggs by my own ignorance, lol!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

David, have you posted in the computer forum?,maybe you can get someone to help you out.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

There is a free program called "Picasa" that Bambi told me about. It sorts your pics for you - goes through your whole computer and categorizes them. She uses it alot because she says she could never find her photos without it.

You can download it from this page:

http://www.google.com/downloads/

It's on the top right

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I never had a problem finding my pics until I had to do a wipe out on my computer. I always clicked on browse and it opened up right where I needed to be. When I reinstalled the pic software it now send them to a file and when I go tot hat file I cant find them.

I've got a friend who is real computer litterate,I just need to get in touch with him and see if he'll come over and help me out.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Best of luck with the computer problem, David. They can be so aggravating sometimes.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Karrie, does the photo program work with a Mac, G5???? Thanks!!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I don't believe the program works for macs. I think it is just for pc's. That is what I read from the system requirements that were on the page.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Oooops, I missed the system requirements, but I did look. Thanks!!!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

:-) that fine print. lol
