Lavender trumpet vine

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It's still blooming. It is sort of over run by a Lady Margaret PV so I didn't see the flowers till yesterday.

I went around the corner to check behind the lattice around the pool pump. I kept hearing a hummingbird. There is a roufous that is "hanging out" back there under the thunbergia and passiflora vines. He kept squeeking and I went to see if he was okay and saw the flowers.

Wow, I love that picture. I just bought two Podranea brycei. Is that what this is? I hope so.

Susie, that Lavender Trumpet vine is just gorgeous . I would love to have one like that. I bought a (I think it is called Golden Trumpet vine) a couple of years ago. It should be large enough to bloom this year. Is just showing leaf buds now.

It is in my 2 year old Woodland area. I planted it for the hummingbirds. Have three kinds of hummer, Rufous, Blackchinned and the tiny Caliope. There are probably 25 or so here now, some of each kind. Saw one of the male Rufous yesterday with the sun shining on him, He was beautiful, wish i could get a photo that would show his wonderful colors. Thanks for posting the lovely Trumpet Vine.

Zuzu-
Podranaea ricasiolana and podranaea brycei are VERY similar. Brycei is one zone more tender...

Thanks for the info, T. I'll have to get one of the others just to make sure one of them survives the winter.

I think you are just fine with brycei in CA in zone 9. We here in zone eight have to grow ricasiolana...
If I remember correctly, the brycei are slightly larger flowers and have a bit of a fuzziness to them on the inside of the petals...
Both are gorgeous and both smell wonderful.

What Calalily has is a lavender version of the brycei(of sorts). The podranaeas are pink, but this one is lavender. The botanical is clytostoma callistegiodes.

Should be fairly easy to find out there in Ca...

Donna S, we have gorgeous hummers here. Here is one that flew into my house when he saw a huge red amaryllis on my dining room table.
