My mil, now deceased, used to grow an annual red salvia. She called it Mexican sage. It looked exactly like the red salvia you can find at most garden centers these days. However, it was much taller, probably three or four feet tall. I suppose they have bred the plants to stay small, but I would really like to locate a source of these taller ones if possible. She lived in Mebane, NC and they self-sowed for her every year. I live in Maryland and have been searching for several years to locate them. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

ISO tall red salvia
Shirley,
It's probably this one: Hummingbird Sage, Texas Sage, Scarlet Sage (Salvia coccinea) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/639/live_view/
Since your south.
Everything grows bigger in Texas they say!

If this is the salvia you looking for I have some seeds collected from my garden this year. plmk and we can set up a trade. Barb
I have seeds for a tall red salvia. I got them in a trade several years ago and have been collecting seed every year. They get at least three feet tall. I still have seed collected from last fall...they have a very high germination rate.
Email me if interested.
