Looking at those makes me want to move back south again... I sure wish I could grown them here in TN. Drat, drat, drat....

Those are drop dead gorjus though and thanks for making my heart palpitate... yikes...

Carolyn

Carolyn,

You could grow them in pots, then trim them back and bring them in for the winter.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Carolyn, I grow lots of tropical hibiscus here in Tennessee. Most of mine are grown in pots and brought into the garage for the winter. But I have grown a few in the ground and they get huge! Even if I didn't have the space inside to overwinter them, I would have to grow a few as annuals.

Gorgeous, nathalyn!!

Which variety is it?

Carolyn,

I forgot to mention, all the branches you trim off, you could root them and use them for trade!!

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Donna, I got some from Parkseed last year. All were beautiful, but at least one was miss labled. I believe this one was called "Ruffled Beauty".

And what a beauty it is!

dstartz,
sorry it is taking me so long to answer this thread. I work now and my time is not like it used to be :-)..all the Hibiscus in the picture are not really mine. We own a nursery and they sold as soon as they bloomed! Here is another one that bloomed and sold yesterday..

Hello again. All you folks have given me the fever to grow Hibiscus again... So... now where to begin... I reckon I will have to begin by begging for some cuttings, since I don't have any to trade... (but I will next season, eh?)
I would certainly give my eye teeth, (If I still had them, lol) for some like that very first picture in this thread, but beggars cannot be choosey, and I would be willing to accept whatever anyone offers me.. I will gladly pay postage.... I will go to the post office today and pick up a fist full of stamps...
Should I perhaps post by beggin over at the trade forum?

I have a rather large garage, and a nice sized sunroom too... so I can overwinter quite a few ..... along with some brugs. that I already bring in each year...

LMK okay??

Carolyn,
My large T. hibiscus(es?) were trimmed last fall in order to fit them all inside. And I won't be attempting to root any cuttings until mid-summer (that is when I have the best luck). If you don't find anyone that has cuttings now, a bunch of us DGer's have ordered from Proplants on Ebay. She sells reasonably priced rooted liners (small but healthy) and has a nice selection of unusual cultivars. There are also a couple of other online suppliers that I can recommend if you want larger plants.

Thanks bunches,,, I will go and take a peek... I also will be visiting in Florida for a couple of weeks and I fully intend to take full advantage of my dear friends and kinfolk while I am there... Probably will come back with a carload... lol... hope so anyway...haha..

Blessings,
CArolyn

Carolyn,

If yo could buy one plant and root some cutting off of it you could be part of the trade that a bunch are working to take place later this year http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/490229/

Of course, these are hardy hibiscus, but I would be willing to tuck some tropical cuttings in when sending you my trade.

And nathalyn is correct. Carol has wonderful plants. I hope to do another co-op with her before the year is out. (The last one had the liners priced at $1.90 each.)

That I think I could do... and I was just talking with my DIL who lives in Florida.. and she said that she knows of some really cool nurseries that have lots of hibiscus... We are leaving in a couple of weeks, and so I think I will put off buying till I get down there... heh heh.. Then I know I will probably end up with more than just one. I mean after all, who can just buy one? eh? Not me.. lol...
I have lots of hardy hibiscus seedling started... and some are already getting their second leaves... so I should have a pretty good batch this summer... That is if my house sitter doesn't kill them all with kindness... haha..

Blessings,
Carolyn
