17" Brug in bud big time

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

Well I just had to brag about this to someone. One of my cuttings from this winter is in bud, the plant is only 17" tall and has eight buds on it, it am totally amazed the flowers will be bigger then the plant itself LOL. This is my Halo Peach that I posted a pic of awhile back. Hopefully they will open and bloom or is it to small and the buds will fall off, I have waited all winter to stick my nose in a brug blossom.

Good for you. I'm looking forward to seeing the open blooms.

Whoa!! Look at the size of those.
Your kitchen is gonna smell so good. Congrats

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

I only brought it inside to the kitchen to take a pic of it, it had been outside until the weather turned cold here and then back into the greenhouse for about a week. I am thinking about keeping it inside until after it blooms, but I am afraid that one of my cats will get ahold it it, they love to munch on the leaves of my plants and I already lost one cat from chewing on a brug.

HMMMM my kitchen would smell really good wouldn't it , have to think about this LOL.

You Wrote:I already lost one cat from chewing on a brug.

What happened to the cat??? Don't tell me it died from being poisoned!!

Judy

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

Yes Judy I did, sorry to say that but it did happen. Last year, My first cat, took him to the vet and he was poisoned by the brug ran tests and everything and tried to save it but was too late complete body shutdown. My cats are indoor cats so We know that it wasn't anything from outdoors and I had one on the screened in porch and the cat was always munching on the plant and I caught him on the brug and two weeks later gone. But things happen and we learn from experience, I don't let any of my other cats around the plants. I still am addicated to my Brugs and I still can't get enough of them. I even named one after the cat.

My cat tries to sharpen her claws on one of my brugs. Once in a while she goes a little crazy. Maybe she is getting high on the brug leaves or something. I'm sorry you lost a cat because of the brugs. That is the first pet I've heard anyone mention losing. That is really sad.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I am soooooooooo sorry about your cat!!! In the two years I've had brugs, I've never had a single dog or a cat or a kid that showed one smidgen of interest in the brugs, with exception of the cats using one of the beds for a litter box...

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

Well, let's not think about it okay , it happenned a year ago, I am just thrilled that this brug is in bloom and can't wait to see the blooms and if it does I will post pic's. It'samazing to me that this Brug is only 17" tall and has eight buds on it, okay people think the scent and how it will take you to a happy place , i can't wait.

Congrats on the buds and condolences on the cat. I was a little concerned about my cat this winter when I started with brugs but he never touched them. Oh he loves to chew on the palm and spider plants though. Stupid cat!!

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

thanks 8ft. Brug is doing wonderful I just hope one will bloom before Thursday as we are going out of town for 5days. My luck it will bloom out while I am gone and I will miss sticking my nose in it, waited all winter for that LOL.

Go JoAnn!! Hey, you could always drop it off here for me to babysit and photograph. It would probably still be here when you want it back. LOL

It was really nice to meet you! Don't be a stranger. :)

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

Chele, thanks for the kind thoughts, I wouldn't part with that one I am so amazed that it budded (8 of them) when it is so small. Ric got one that had a bud just starting maybe you can babysit that one and forget to give it back LOL. It was also nice to meet you, I am so glad I came everyone wa so nice.

WOW that is a lot of buds on one plant, so far I have only been blessed with one at a time. I bet you are excited.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

JoAnn, pretty good! Looks like you will have lots of blooms from this all summer. Post a pic, I just can't remember seeing Halo Peach before.

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

Kell, Here is the pic, I bought this Brug from Parks last year and they did very well ,as are all my cuttings. I would have neer expected to get tht many blooms on such a small plant needless to say it made my day.

Now theres a daring combination.... Water hawg brug with a Cactus. Is that a big bad boy prickly pear? I couldn't do that - stumbling around in the dark trying to get a sniff and I'd end up in big fight with the cactus and you'd probably hear about it on 11 o'clock news :)

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

Ah Rick, it is wonderful, one of my babies has grown so nicely.
I have often wondered how they are doing out in the world.

I think you have given it a good home. All the cuttings I got from you are growing also. There are two with buds right now, can't wait to see them as they are un-identified. Remember the baggie full of cutting you gave me. As soon as it blooms I will take a pic and post it for you and everyone.

It was nice hearing from you again stay in touch.

8ft bed, you are so funny, just imagine the news report at 11:00.

Man falls into cactus, took 8 ER nurses with long handled tewzers and five hours to pick out all the thorns. Man will be hospitalized for at least 5 days laying on his stomach, taking vicadin for pain. He is expected to make a full recovery .

Then the nurses come back in and ask what is that up his nose is that a brugger? LOL

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

LOL!

That Opuntia is a real terror too.
It's right next to the Brug on the 5' high shelf.
Most of the spines are downward facing too.
Makes for dicey wateriing! lol

The slabs are 18" tall for reference.

JoAnn it's a pleasure hearing from you also!
I need to keep more in touch for sure.

I just found some buds on one of my cutting plants today too!
Maybe the same cultivar?
It will be fun finding out.

Ric
