color management

N., CA(Zone 9a)

Hi. I'm not sure if this should be posted on cameras or computer talk. I am a novice and might sound like a complete maroon, but is there some way to "calibrate" color when downloading pics from my digital camera? What I see on my screen is different from others'. For example, I emailed a picture of a dark magenta peony to my sister, and she wrote back and said she thought it was hot pink. This happens a lot. Also, color images from my printer look different from what is on the monitor. Is anyone familiar with this problem? Thanks in advance for your help!
