Saxifrages of April 29

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

It has been a cold, miserable week in Newfoundland so the saxifrages are just sitting...many are showing colour in the buds, but that's about it. It is suppose to reach 50 F for two days Sunday and Monday, so that should move them. Here is a pic of Saxifraga versiculata that opened last week. More flowers are open now but snails decided to snack on it.

One additional Kabschia managed to open despite the cold. This is Saxifraga 'Iranica'. I like the way the flowers pretty much sit atop the foliage.

Those are beautiful. Here's a picture of some of my baby saxes. Notice please, just barely planted and already some pawprints in between them.

Those are so pretty. I especially like Kabschia. Nice raised planter there Zuzu! I've been on a snail hunt this afrernoon amongst the plants in my raised beds. One of my favourite trilliums firstly got bent and snapped almost completely by the wind then decimated by snails. I'm an organic gardener and don't kill anything but now it's war!
